dust and airbox

I know this is probably covered in another thread but I suck at using the search function and today I am very lazy..like a vast slug, so here goes.

I intend to ride in some pretty dusty environments this spring/summer. With that in mind, should I stay with the stock air box? Also, I don't plan on changing the jet from stock or drilling the muffler.

I would either keep the stock box or go with a UNI foam filter.

You may need to change the jet to use the UNI filter.

Be sure to oil the stock filter and check for air leaks between the carb and the filter itself. Mine came with no oil on the filter and it will not stop the dust without oil.

I got one of these foam unifilters from J. C. Whitney for $10.50 . The 1 1/2" fit. Here's the link -- Item # ZX060191A. However, it needs some rubber or something inside for a better fit around the carb. It's basically a big spring with a piece of foam over it. It got nasty looking very fast without the air box. I had the clamp pretty tight, but I could still pull off the filter by hand. I was worried that if made the clamp too tight it would cut into the foam. I went back to the stock air box.

Scroll down to the red pod filters. They have a urethane mount to the carb. You can also get a dirt sock to put over it.

Those look better. The seal is definitely necessary.

The one you got is the base model or something.

Check with Bruce, he will get you the right one the first time.
