No spark, other possibilities? - Page 4

It's all ferrous in there, so can you use a long magnet to remove the rod? That might be a lot quicker. I have a really cheap multi driver that I only keep around because it has a telescopic magnet in the shaft.

I've got the top off now. I was wondering if while I was in here I should check for other things. For instance, should I clean the top of my piston or replace any rings or anything? If there is nothing to be had by doing this, then it's going back together!

I'd inspect the cylinder walls. If they look good (unscored) I'd button it up and go riding.

It's kinda risky to start removing carbon from the top of a piston while it's installed in the cylinder; it's tough to keep junk out of the ring land area. If you decide to clean the carbon off, have an assistant hold a Shop Vac over your work area, so that debris is forced into the vacuum.

Is the carbon on the piston and valves excessive?

Not excessive at all. Just want to make sure I have no (preventable) reason to ever take this thing apart again. I'll just let it go for now. Thanks!

update: I finished adjusting the valves, this still has not allowed the bike to fire over. The coil Brian had on the bike when he gave it to me was no good I changed the coil to the extra one he supplied and the bike had spark (as he said a weak spark with a yellow color not a strong blue). I then sprayed some starting fluid in the carb with no response still. I know the plug is new and I guarantee the fuel is getting to the cylinder. does anyone have a suggestion as to which cdi and coil I should buy (preferably a bit more voltage through the coil.) I believe there might be a problem with how weak the spark is; it's that bad.
