Honda 160cc Vertical Shaft Engine questions.

I changed the oil in my power washer today. I could find no drain plug. I removed the filler/dipstick and tipped the unit on its side over the collection bucket. Is there a better way?

Also, do I check the oil with the dipstick screwed in or not?

I don't know about the drain plug, but any Honda I ever owned said to check the oil with the dipstick resting on the case, not screwed in :)

Thanks, you're right. I found a downloadable manual. It's for a horizontal shaft but I'm sure this is the same.

As far as the plug goes it would be nice to know but I can always tip it on its side and use the filler hole to drain it.

Truth be told that's how I drain all my dirtbikes! Faster and sometimes neater than the drain plug on the side or bottom. :wink:

You know, come to think of it I think my lawnmower with a Honda engine says to tip it to drain it as well. Not 100% positive but I recall reading that in the manual.

I found the plug.

No way to get to it withiut removing the motor!

My old Honda mower requires that it be tipped over to drain the oil. There's no drain plug, because there's no room for one. It has a clutch system that allows the engine to run without the blade spinning. Once you pull the lever, the blade engages. It's very busy under there.

I use a turkey baster with about 8" of fuel line stuck to the end. Just suck the oil out an into a container.


Typically the plugs are on the bottom and not accessible like you found.
