Here's what my son did during my last underway period

http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc38/steelrfn/personal/100_0966.jpg

He had torn up the rear rim on his 110cc original ebay pitbike.
We bought a used 125, and swapped in his engine when that one wouldn't work.
He got bored and put the spring arm and rear tire off the 125 onto the 110 frame, and absolutely thought it was the coolest thing ever :D

Now he broke the 12" rim as well

He was trying to build a hill climber.

He says he was going for "drag bike" :D

Either way, I am now making him put the 125 back together.... then I am going to make a three wheeler out of the little one

I was thinking drag bike as well.

Here's a pic of a pitbike three wheeler I found on Planet Minis a while back.

Interesting choice of rear tires if you ask me.

That's almost exactly what I am going for. A new rear rim for his smaller frame is almost 100, and I already have all the necessary parts on the go kart frame he broke in half while I was at sea last time.

Never mind, wound up rewelding the go kart together because the swing arm to the smaller frame is missing :x

damn! looks like that rear swing arm is gonna run around 100. That project just went straight to the bottom of the priority list.

And now I know where the engine is coming from for the 4 wheeler. :D

Anyone have an idea how difficult it would be to fabricate some kind of swing arm assembly to mount to the rear axle? I am thinking that it wouldn't be too hard to fab something up that will work, and then it's just a matter of restricting the speed. :D

Went to Northern tools today and bought the rear axle setup. Total cost $254.
Tomorrow it's time to begin making the new swing arm and lining everything up to install it.

Speaking of the new swing arm, anyone have an idea what would work to mount it? I don't have the original swing arm, so, barring a new plan I am going to just mount some go kart wheelbearings in a piece of tubing and mount it crossways at the end of the new swing arm.

Hope that'll hold up.

Considering that most china swingarms use bushings the bearings should be an upgrade.

That's what I was thinking.

Will post some pics once I get things mocked up.

Time for a quick update.

The frame in the first post has a pair of bike handlebars welded to the old handlebar brackets due to an incident with some pavement. The welds held up fine but the handlebar bolts broke now, and I didn't allow for them to be changed.
Since the rest of that frame is about equally crappy we built the trike out of his larger 125 frame.
Mocked everything up last night and welded the brackets to hell and back only to find out I measured them wrong and they allow the back axle to move up and down.

Going out there today to try and figure out a fix for that problem.

Will post pics when I un-screw this thing up.

Happy Fathers Day everyone.

Got it done with the exception of him never filling us in that he took the brakes off both frames :x

Put the handles and all on the front tire for the hydraulic brake that was on it, but the handle reservoir is shot so I need to pick up another.
Going to get a go kart brake for the rear wheel next payday.

Here's the finished product. http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc38/steelrfn/personal/100_0975.jpg

Heres a closer shot of the rear end. It's a 1" go kart axle with an ATV live axle hub on one side and a hub that freely spins on the other, (so it will steer better), also have a standard go kart sprocket on there at the moment because it was alot easier to modify than one of his dirtbike sprockets.

The brackets came with the mounting kit, and I added 2" L shaped pieces and welded them on, then used the mounting holes for the axle to allow for adjustment of the chain length.

Anyone considering building one of these I recommend that you use C channel rather than the L shape because that will reduce the ability of the brackets to move.

You should have plenty of plower to spin those tires. Not real agressive.

Those tires and a live axle would probably work and still be able to turn.

Possibly, I will probably end up putting another solid hub on there and trying it sooner or later.
Right now am trying to get the younger two kids to ride, so figure something they can't tip over while learning to use a clutch would be best.

Less traction will be good for a learning. Too much and they will wheelie it over on themselves.

I haven't ridden a 3wheeler since about 1988.

Already had to rebuild the rear brackets, made them "C" shaped this time to not allow up and down movement.
Next refinement will probably be to box them in completely if I see much side to side shifting.

On a positive note my 9 year old hopped on last night and rode it around the yard, his first ride using a clutch :D

And never weld without a shirt on :(

never to late to start i guess, or too early!

Which should save the gears on my 200 some beating :D
