i have had a 78 honda cb125 for about 6yrs. it hasnt ran for atleast a couple of those years. anyways i rode it with a non threatening cylinder crack for several months before. it finally jumped time and believed to have bent a valve. i had rebuilt it shortly after i got it and loved to ride it.

now i would love to get it running again but to fix it right would cost more than i want to put into it so im considering installing a clone engine. my deliema is do i go with a 125 or upgrade to a 150 or 200cc engine. cost being the biggest factor what do you guys suggest.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I think that a 200cc pushrod OHV would be the cheapest, and I'm guessing that it's a bolt-in deal. Also, the pushrod motors are known to be very reliable. You might even get lucky enough to find a 250 (which is probably 230).

200cc Hoopper Imports Lifan engine. The OHC is only a couple dollars more than the OHV so I'd go for that. In a heartbeat! :D

It would even be easier than Doc's Dirt Rat project, because the CB already has a battery box. Does it have kick start only? If so, you'd need to rig up a starter button.

it is a kick start only. it has a 6volt system so i would have to do wiring upgrade on any engine update. i thought of making it electric powered but the controllers and motors are to expensive.

I would go for the 200cc. Why not have the extra power for just a few dollars more.

You won't need new controllers for a 12 volt system, just an added starter switch. You could use a generic two wire dirt bike kill switch.

I don't think that you'll find a kick-only 200 very easily. The electric start versions are much more common. Make sure you buy the solenoid, rectifier, CDI and coil at the same time.

i apologize for my jumping back and forth. i meant controllers to operate a completely electric bike. i had read up on making atotally electric bike but a good electric motor and controller was looking to be very expensive.

i will probably go with a 200cc . you never know i might find a good deal on a lifan popup. i just need to secure the funds.
