I'm tempted... I was expecting the price to be in the $1k range.

I don't know that it would actually do much for you, but it would give easier tuning options if you are playing with intake and exhaust modifications. Pretty cool little kit!

Holy cow! 8O That looks like the real deal! Closed loop and everything!
Boy,....tempted.

It really is not bad at $300.

So it on another forum. Thought Andrew might need another gadget on his Q.

I think it's perfect for your tractor, Kato.

and I think 2LZ Should get one for his "Q" and let us all know how it works out! LMAO - JK

This is really nicely priced......Hmmmmm Gadget Boy passes on this one - for now anyway......

Very interseting! Great price. Looks like a semi-involved instalation but not too bad.

If I was keeping the PP400 that wowuld be an AWESOME upgrade! It could improve everything from mileage and range to starting and throttle response. I like it. Also, with CL FI a guy could do whatever he wanted with exhaust. No carb tuning. I really like it.

that is cool. probably make a pretty good accelleration gain.

It would be great for a guy out West who rides over lage changes in altitude, and/or wants to use different exhausts. Say a stock one for commuting and a louder one for off road.

It would be a natural on a KLR adventure bike! :P

I'll stick to the $40 carb and $5 jets.

that kit is pretty sweet, the only part that id like some more information on is the throttle body/intake manifold. id like to see how its built and how it operates before i drop down the cash on something like that..

so i will be sticking with the carb and cheap jets... for now

Actually thats pretty nice. Couple that with a turbo and you could have one heck of a Q.

If a good fuel injection kit only costs $299, why do the bike manufacturers charge so much for fuel injection? It makes one wonder. ;)

I think you hit that right on the head...
Plus all the emission certifications for a production vehicle. Quite a chunk of change to get that done, to my understanding.
I've looked at another EFI version that plainly states it is not certified for on-road use, racing only.
Still, the geek wants one real bad... 8)

I understand, Bill. It really speaks toi me too!

Good point, Spud. And if retail is $300 cost to manufacturer will be closer to $150 I bet.

Sounds like someone may be trying it over at scootdawg. I will see if I can find the thread.

Do we know who manufactures this EFI unit? Xingyue manufactures engines in China for Rotax. Xingyue also manufactures the Pitster Pro LXT 400, and Xingyue chose to place a Rotax top end on the LXT 400 engine. This Rotax top end was originally equipped with fuel injection, Brother Bill. ;)

I thought about that.

Better mixture control would improve power, mileage, range, smoothness, and starting in very cold weather, all small issues with this bike. Whereas it works good now, I bet with FI it would work great.

This would be a great mod for the next owner. :P

I agree. I think it's possible Xingyue manufactures this EFI unit for Rotax, and is now selling it, or a copy of it, on the open market. ;)

After this bike goes a few thousand miles and proves itself I think it would be a great mod, again for the next owner. I have 1,200 miles on the XY/PP and I really like it, but today I rode the KLX. It's been sitting depressed in the garage while the XY/PP got all the riding. The KLX is a magnificent piece of engineering. A real pleasure to look at, ride, and to own.

It sounds like you're trying really hard to talk yourself out of fuel injection, Doc.

At the end of the day, you can't necessarily extract more power from a fuel injection system (I know that's not the only point). The stoichiometrically ideal 14.7:1 ratio is not ideal for maximum power; that closer to 12:1 in most cases. As Doc says, it would provide easier starting and faster warm-up, but I doubt that O2 sensor is wideband, and I doubt the sotware maps out a progressively richer mixture.

Still, it would be really cool if someone tried it and proved me wrong. :D

I bet on it's worst day the FI provides a more accurate mixture than a China-carb! 8)

I would be interested to see what kind of mpg improvement it provides. The new honda elite 110 comes with FI. Suppose to break the 100mpg mark.
