Garage Pro Travel Trunks

In case anyone is interested, the large, Garage Pro Travel Trunks are back in stock at J.C. Whitney. :) Previously, J.C. Whitney sold the same travel trunk under the company name.

I have owned several of the J.C. Whitney Travel Trunks, and they are superb. However, the newer, Garage Pro (GP) Travel Trunks are even better. :) The GP trunks are lighter, employ stronger lid straps, and cost less than the original travel trunks. To locate the travel trunk, go to the following link and search for JCW-277022. ;)

If you use a 20% off code, you can get one of these large travel trunks for $40, delivered with free shipping. These trunks lock to the luggage rack on a steel mounting plate, and can be easily removed whenever you wish. You won't beat this deal on eBay, or anywhere else. I currently own an original trunk trunk, and a new GP travel trunk, but I am seriously tempted to buy another. ;)

These travel trunks are copies of Givi, E360 travel trunks, which usually cost over $200 apiece. ;)

The mounting plate on the new, GP travel trunk is slightly different from the old mounting plate. Apparently, the new GP travel trunks fit perfectly on Givi, Monokey mounting plates, and vice versa. ;)

Sears formerly sold the J.C. Whitney Travel Trunk under their name. You might find the following video informative. It shows an unboxing of the travel trunk, and its subsequent mounting on a Kawasaki KLR650 motorcycle. The video also shows how the Givi Monokey mounts are compatible with the Garage Pro Travel Trunks. :)

I shared this in another section as well.

I have one of the JC Whitney travel trunks, and it's very good. I installed a genuine Givi for Pastor Jim, and I didn't see much difference.

katoranger 12-13-2014 10:44 AM

I had the earlier JC Whitney one on the scooter.

These travel trunks are very rugged, and hold a lot of stuff. I gave one of my travel trunks to a friend this summer, so I just placed an order for another, Garage Pro Travel Trunk. ;) You really can't go wrong for a price of $39.99, delivered.

I've always been a bit suspect of hanging all the weight off the rear of a bike, especially a trail bike. Just be

It's wise to be circumspect. ;) However, I have been using these trunks for years, and thousands of miles, attached to the luggage racks of both my Honda XR650L, and my Zongshen ZS200GY-2. Personally, I haven't had any problems.

Don't ya'll worry about snapping these things off on big hits let alone broken sub frames?

SpudRider 12-13-2014 08:02 PM

My goodness, no. :hmm:

The subframe of my Zongshen 200GY-2 is very strong. I'm confident the subframe of the Zongshen RX3 is very strong as well. All Chinese luggage racks are also very strong.

I installed a very strong luggage rack on my Honda XR650L. :) The subframe of my Honda XR650L is not noted for its strength, so I reinforced it. ;)

The Garage Pro Travel Trunk and its mounting plate are very strong.

Needless to say, one should still exercise discretion, and not overload a travel trunk. When heavily loading a motorcycle, one should also take care to keep the weight distributed, and as low a possible. ;)

Weldangrind 12-14-2014 12:09 PM

I agree. The racks I've seen on China bikes are not trivial. My Honda clone bikes have fully welded subframes, like an old XR200, and I've yet to see one crack.

When Son of Weldangrind and I joined Spud on an adventure ride to Bonneville last year, we had mounted a massive Plano box on the rack to hold everything we needed. It worked very well.

SpudRider 12-14-2014 03:06 PM

Weld,

I think you will agree; the road to Bonneville got pretty rough in places. ;) I have traveled thousands of miles over similar roads, at high speeds, with a fully loaded, J.C. Whitney Travel Trunk attached. I haven't had any problems. :)

As a side note, I can vouch that Chinese motorcycles are built tough, to perform as work vehicles, not recreational toys. That's one of the reasons Chinese bikes are significantly heavier than Japanese motorcycles. ;) Unlike a dirt bike, an adventure bike definitely needs to be built in this manner, with a very strong subframe to support heavy loads. I am thoroughly confident the Zongshen RX3 is built tough, and will prove to be a strong, reliable motorcycle. :) Therefore, I won't hesitate to mount a Garage Pro Travel Trunk on my Zongshen RX3.

Wolftrax 12-14-2014 06:38 PM

Glad to hear so much confidence in the Zong frames. I'm not a big fan of top boxes or hard luggage and probably won't even install either when i build my RX3. I'm a fan of soft luggage and probably do something like this.

I like my weight low and forward.
