In answer to the original poster's questions.

1) If necessary, I suggest you purchase a Zongshen stator/pickup coil from Taobao. While you are at it, get several spare CDI units, et cetera.

2) Yes, you will need to drain the oil before you remove the left crankcase cover. I do suggest you get a new gasket, since the original gasket will probably be glued to the crankcase. While the cover is off, I suggest you section the cover as described in the following thread.

3) You should test all the electrical components to verify they are working correctly. The resistance values are listed in the following thread.

I suggest you start by testing the resistance values, then give us an update regarding your findings.
