I used the air compressor method and the tight left grip slipped off faster than hot butter down a tilted frying pan!
Oh my that is a very solid chunky metal handlebar end, that hole looks solid, yes its not lipped its drilled out 9.5mm through solid metal.
And the "Universal Fit Kit" for the hand guards won't go in. The large expansion tube when removed still shows the small expansion lock needed about 12.7mm. Its not going to fit.
I really don't feel like free-hand drilling right now so I finally get to use my carry bag for official business for the very first time!
Returned to the UPS Store to go back to Amazon.
I will have a think some more about hand guard and have a look around at a later date. For now I'll just forego them.
Left hand grip is super tight so I used the isoprophyl alcohol trick. Tipped a thimblefull in the grip, put my hand over the end and gave it a good shake. Tipped it out over top of the handlebar soaking it completely. I put the grip against the end of the handlebar and pushed. Oh my word, (this is a family site yea?) it was slick and slid on like nothing.
The lubrication properties were so good at the end of the return ride from the UPS store after wiping down the bike (started to lighlty spit rain after exiting the store) I then made sure I twisted the left grip into the final alignment and position I want it in when it finally sticks down hard again.
