The 6 speed version of the 249cc engine has counterbalancing, and the 5 speed does not. I could hear the difference when I had a 6 speed. I don't think it's a problem. Lots of 6 speed Templars out there running fine. The engines in the Templars are made by Zongshen. They are model number 172FMM. 5 speeds are 172FMM-3A, and 6 speeds were designated 172FMM-5 when they showed up nearly 2 years ago in the X.

The 6th gear is great, and counter balancing is also a good thing. Personally, I ride mostly off road below 25mph, and I like the simpler engine. I just don't need a 6th gear.
