A flight across the desert to the Columbia River Gorge.

Linda and I flew to Hood River, Oregon on Sunday to enjoy a nice summer day. We flew the Columbia River Gorge through the backbone of the Cascade Mountains to the beautiful little airport there .

We borrowed the airport car and drove to town for an awesome birck over pizza lunch. She had a beer. Water only for the pilot  .

Then we went to the river. We happened to arrive at the time when an international kite-boarding tournament was going on so we watched a little of that. Hood River, and the Gorge in general, is considered one of the best kite boarding/windsurfing locations in the world.

Then we went to a great museum there. Many antique cars, airplanes, and motorcycles.

We met some nice people, and look forward to going back. Next time we will bring friends.

The temps in the mountains on the river were in the 60's. Back home the The Great Frozen Desert (as I call home... ) were near 100. It was nice to cool off. :P

Linda at the airport with Mt. Hood in the background.

Kiteboarders.

Geo Metro airport car. It was fun.

Mt Adams. One of the highest mountains in the Cascades. The highest is Mt. Rainier. We had a good view of it too but a little too far for a nice picture.

Returning to the desert.

I feel the need for speed!

Thanks for posting the nice photos, Doc. The Columbia River Gorge is very windy. The town of Hood River almost always has good conditions for the wind surfers. The Oregon coast is noted for its cool temperatures, but 60 degree temperatures are too cold for a July day in Hood River! 8O
