Dual Sport Ride

I unfortunately sold my Lifan due to a job loss a couple months ago. I wanted to post a link to the video I took from my helmet cam. This is only to show that a 200cc Enduro Bike like the Lifan mounted with good knobby tires can ride these events just fine. Of course the rider needs to have some skill but the bike is more than enough to make it. The western states Dual Sport events are generally easier than the Easter Woods versions. Here in Ohio most of the them end up being equal to a class B enduro. 8O

I rode a 225cc Yamaha with questionable tires so traction was lacking in the slippery stuff. An overnite rainstorm greased up the trails nicely...

What type of helmet cam did you use? The quality of the video is pretty good.

I really like that seat. My father-in-law used to do upholstery. I may have to bring the seat with at Christmas.

Well of course a Jap bike can make it through that but there's no way a China bike could have. :wink:

Is your Yamama as buzzy as our chinabikes?

Actually, even though I did not get to ride my Lifan in this exact type of event, I KNOW it would have done just as good or better. The XT225 is a smaller feeling bike even though it has the same size tires. I have ridden the Lifan is many off road areas and it feels more like a dirt capable bike than the XT. It must be the rake and the front suspension. I replaced all the fasteners ( except engine bolts) and put new handle bars on it. I also upgraded the chain and sprockets. I would have just replaced the chain with a good quality version if I had it to do over. I put great DOT knobby tires (Kenda Trackmaster 760) on it and turned it into a very capable off road bike. It had very good low end torque and climbing hills was a breeze. Riding single track is just as easy... If you don't abuse it and keep up with the maintenance, you'll have a solid ride for years.

So don't be afraid of challenging yourself and your chinabike to a DualSport event. You'll have alot of fun!

The XT225 has an overhead cam. Not a fair comparison to a pushrod OHV engine in my Lifan. Different design and feel. Soon all Lifans will come with OHC, you wait and see. I think there are some on the market now.

I agree with blimpman..
I took my Roketa DB07 out in the sticks last fall.. My friend had a Suzuki DR400. The China bike did just fine. I dropped it several times .... as I have NEVER been offroading before... and bike control is TOTALLY different... you MUST be very loose on the controls. But even my buddy was suprized how well the bike did. Only real recurring trouble I had was when I would stall it going up a hill the bike would slide back down the hill.. the front tire would just slide... and i could not put enough pressure on the rear brake to keep the tire from rolling... I fixed this somewhat by removing the bend in the brake rod and making it straight.. it was flexing instead of putting pressure onthe brake assembly. A disk setup would be even better.

But other than that.. the bike did really good... it had way more capability that the rider
