Checking/replacing fork oil hawk

Forks are not something i've really messed with before so some guidance would be helpful.

I want to check/replace the fork oil in the hawk. I'm guessing the same process would apply for the Bashan or other bikes on here.

Does anyone have some links in the forum regarding the steps on how to do this or other helpful links to videos for these china bikes specifically?

Special tools or equipment needed? special fluid?

I think your Hawk has conventional forks. However, here is a link to a thread about changing the fork oil for USD forks.

I was also hesitant to try this, but it turned out to be very easy.

-Undo the fork caps up by the triple tree
-Place a catch pan under the fork you are about to open
-Use a hex drive to remove the bolt at the bottom of the fork (Will be tight!)
-Let all the fluid drain into the pan
-Replace the hex bolt at the bottom of the fork and tighten
-Fill with (~150ml? I did 160ml and it seems to work great) of fork oil. I used this stuff
http://www.ebay.com/itm/231115859333...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

1 bottle was enough to do both forks. I measured 150ml of water in a measuring cup, then poured that into a cheap plastic cup and made a mark where it filled to. I dried the cup and then filled to the same mark with the fork oil in the cheap plastic cup.

-Repeat on the other fork

Hope that helps! Post up any troubles you have along the way. Be sure to use the correct size hex key, if you strip that fastener it would be extremely difficult to get it out.

Good luck!

Yep it's pretty basic. Just be prepared that when the fluid drains out of the second shock the forks will drop to the ground if you don't support them.
