Gel Battery

Greetings from Sunny Florida:

Our new Hi Bird 250 arrived on Monday and I am a bit puzzled by the battery. The battery has a black case with no means of viewing the interior; is void of any markings (except terminal polarity); is completely sealed (I removed the top cover which had been glued in place and found only non-removable plugs over the cells); has no visible vent system; and makes no sloshing sound when shaken.

Assuming this is a gel battery what steps (such as charging) should be taken before putting the battery into service?

I believe it is a gel battery and I checked the voltage on arrival and it was within spec. To my knowledge the charging system depends more on the motorcycle's electronics than the battery. But you would only use a trickle charger on this battery.

Ride well[/i]

Sounds like a sealed no-maintenance gel battery. You don't need to add anything to it.

Just use a 1 amp charger and charge it.

Might take overnight.

Thanks, katoranger. It's on my charger now.
