Valve Lash for 167ML

So........ I had the dang motor running then it wouldn't start again. Back to running on starting fluid but not on it own. So I'm wondering if I have the valves set correctly. I've been all over the web and this site and have the basic range but nothing I'd say that came from a verified source.

Does anyone know what I should be setting it to?

Valve In: .005; Exh: .008 is what I have them at now but I've see a lot of variations on that setting.

if you have any clearance at all and it isn't too much clearance, valve lash should have no impact on starting. .005 / .008 is definitely not too much clearance.

It's .05 MM intake and .08 MM exhaust.
Not inches.

The owner's manual for the Hawk implies .05mm for both - it just has the one specification.

However, after reading some of the threads, giving a little extra time on the exhaust side sounds reasonable - I'll probably set that to .08mm next oil change. Either of those should be fine.

I think the most important thing from what I've seen is to make sure you set it as part of the assembly and start up process. Seems like everyone who has done it has found that it's set to zero out of the factory, myself included.

Starting fluid masks a lot of sin. Beware that you could be faced with something else that has you thinking valves. After you've gone through the fueling system (including jets that are in the ballpark), ensure that you have a spare CDI for testing. In fact, it's a good idea to travel with one. Or two.
