I would advise against getting a spark plug socket for the Torch D8RTC because it is an 11/16in and pretty much any plug you replace it with is an 18mm. You can use an 18mm but it will be a little loose on the Torch but a perfect fit on a replacement.

Best replacements spark plugs:

Denso Iridium 5376: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000M6URPK
or
NGK 2202: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CSGWZC

That is the starter solenoid, Short the big contacts and see if it turns over. Doesn't the buzzing mean a bad battery though?

It might just need a charge?

Mine was very hard to start when new. I adjusted the valves (came stock with no clearance) and changed the plug. Now at 200 miles it fires right up and will even kick start on the first kick. Also make sure you have the run switch turned down not up. This is the opposite of what I have had on all my Jap Bikes.

I reckon that you have a defective battery.

My Hawk's starting behavior was the same when I first got it. During assembly I filled the OEM battery with the included electrolyte and put it on a Deltran Battery Tender for 24 hours (never leave the battery connected to a car charger or it will boil out the electrolyte). I started the bike a few times for the initial break in and oil change. After that the bike wouldn't turn over fast enough to start. So I left it on the Battery Tender overnight. It started (push-button-electric) a few times the next day, but then I would have to kick start it. With a new engine and low battery voltage kick starting was not fun. Especially with a 28" inseam and not being able to stand on the pegs because the kick stand isn't made for the Hawk (2 inches or so too short).

This behavior led me to believe that the problem was either caused by the charging system or the battery. I connected a volt meter to the battery leads while the bike was running and it showed just over 14 volts (I jump started it with another bike). I disconnected all wires to the OEM battery and it showed 10 volts. That ruled out the charging system.

Rather than get a warranty exchange (and take the chance of getting another defective battery) I decided to replace it with a Battery Tender model BTL14A240C that I bought from Amazon. It's $100 and change, but I'll never need to worry about it again. And I haven't had a starting problem ever since (c;

You might be able to make a warranty claim with RPS. Or you could take the measurements of the OEM battery and call someplace like BatteryMart. They know their stuff and can probably sell you a Yuasa equivalent for $35 plus shipping.

I just found a thread started by Johnp:

http://www.chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=16500

He provided a link to the proper Deltran battery (exact size replacement).

More importantly, IMO, this web page lists all major-brand compatible batteries:

Thanks, Johnp!

Don't think it's the battery because the lights and horn still work. Anyone have a link for the solenoid I would need?

That's not a fair indicator; the lights and horn will work with a poor battery. If you don't want to spend the cash until you're sure, take the battery to a shop that can load test it for you.
