so yer want yer bike to go faster.
So get a few more HP from the motor.
but it's only faster on a flat smooth surface
as it still has the same crap suspension that dosn't let you use
the power it already has let alone toss more at it....
yer bought a dirt/trail bike so do the suspension and it
will be faster / easyer to ride / fall of less / less rider fortigue on the dirt..
if yer want to go faster on the seal.... buy a road bike....

Have running gear that can make use of the horsepower
before yer start tossing more at it...

PS.. yer have also got to beable to stop.... brakes..

I blew up my hawk a few weeks ago and a friend of mine had an old XR 200r that he didn't want anymore. So that engine was a direct bolt in. I swapped my 428 counter sprocket to get it running, I'll upgrade to 520 later. Seems to pull nice with the 6 speed transmission. I only got to do a short test ride tonight.

If he's lucky it will be the 2 valve... 4 valves wern't to flash even Honda
relized that & went back to the 2 valve....

Then there are those of us who just like to un-choke the EPA and CARB mandates and let them run to their true design potential.

Yes, I agree. It is what it is. It is not a KTM. Waste of time to try to make it one. It is better than a C-11 BSA in the engine dept. More power, higher revs. Changing the front fork oil makes a big improvement in the handling of the bike off-road. Finding a better rear shock would be the next upgrade. With a carb re-jet, and an aftermarket exhaust, the engine has enough power for what this bike was designed to do. Cowtrailer, traditional Enduro, traditional Trials. Clean the rotors off with brake cleaner, and change the brake fluid. If you are still not happy, change the front brake hose to a stainless steel one. The brakes are plenty big enough, just needs a little TLC. Decide if you want a longer shift lever. One of the charms of this motor-cycle is the fun of improving it without breaking the bank.

How are you keeping the battery charged? I didn't think that the XR stator had that capability...

The XR stator doesn't have a lighting coil? I didn't know that. Otherwise I would guess that that's what the rectifier is on the bike for.

They made two XR200 bikes. The shorty came with out lights in the late 80s or early 90s.

So what is the difference between the motors? Did the new one have more hp than the hawk motor?

I don't care to go fast. I just wanna be able to pull the tire in second

not sure these chinese motors will be able to put up with higher compression for long, they ll burn out pretty quickly i think, going by my italian moped experience. but a big bore kit could be good if available.
