Hawk Clutch Cable?

Hey guys, back with my little knowledge of bikes haha. I was switching out the clutch lever and break lever on my HAWK and noticed a little wear on the clutch cable, so to either be ready for when it snaps or to replace it now and avoid the problem.
I was just wondering what cable i should get? I assume there are different length cables and such, so what length does the HAWK have or what cable does anyone recommend?? I've never replaced a cable or know much about them and just want to have the spare part now for when i'll really need it. Any help is appreciated, THANKS!

Where did you see the wear? On the actual cable, or on the housing?....ARH

There was like a single strand of cable that frayed off. Im assuming the cable isnt in that bad of shape, but i also just want to have the part ready to go if i ever happen to need it

A single strand of cable fraying off is called a preview of coming attractions. Cable should be replaced immediately....ARH

My clutch cable is adjusted all the way out,. I don't have any more room to move it. I was gonna replace it this week,. I was just assuming it was stretched out but now you got me wondering if it isn't coming apart.

I will post what I find when I pull it apart this week.

You can get a replacement hawk cable as mentioned above. You also have two other options. Have Motion Pro custom make one for about 40 to 50 bucks, or for around 22 bucks, get a venhill cable kit and make your own. This requires soldering one of the barrel ends in place, but its a good quality kit.

Be sure not to use a propane torch to do the soldering. Do not use acid core solder. Electric soldering gun will work. Flux core solder. Assuming these are the same as the barrels I used years ago, one side of the hole is coned. Stick the wire through the small side, then spread it to fill the cone, heat the cone enough to melt the solder, and keep the heat on long enough to make sure the cable end is soldered. You don't want to do the same job twice, unless you have to. Get the wire and the cone hot enough the first time, and you will be a happy camper...ARH

I usually use a butane torch to solder

Do you think it is too hot ?,. Seem to be ok for soldering wires together

No, I think one of those butane pencil torches will work fine. If you've already soldered wires, this should be no problem for you. I usually write my stuff with the assumption that the one posting the question doesn't know anything about it. Obviously not so, in your case!...ARH

I just finished installing the new one, it went together very easy, used a dremel with a cut off wheel for both the cable and the cover and i actually found some old lead solder in my tool box, a little flux and it worked out great

I didnt find any fraying in the original cable , nothing that stuck out as an obvious problem. im gonnna just hang onto it for a spare just in case.
