My Hawk 250 build thread!

(not sure if this is the right spot for this if not please move ) (EDIT: sorry the pics are so big! idk how to resize )

Alright so as i am with everything i own, i cant leave it stock or alone for long lol. That being said this is going to be dedicated to the journey i go on with my 2017 Hawk 250.

I currently am running a pod air filter, not by choice because the previous owner broke the rubber boot that i just found when i went to re-jet the carb! I am also running a mikuni carb and the baffle/spark arrestor removed from the stock exhaust.

Today i ordered my sprockets today. I am going to run a 17t front and a 43t rear, from what I've read on the forum here, this is a good setup for cruising around 55-60 and easily swap to a 15t front for some offroading. I do intend on mainly running road tho.

Heres a list of my future mods and some pictures of my current setup
Pro-Taper 7/8 bars
Barkbusters
Shinko 700 or 705 (haven't decided yet)
Gel battery
O-Ring chain
Digital Cluster
MSR Shifter
Exhaust ( or remove my stock cat and wrapping stock exhaust)
LED bulbs all around

The last picture is of me the day i bought the bike, sorry for the ugly mug i was very excited!

Sorry for the lengthy post! i will be updating as i go along. Please feel free to comment, suggest brands/links to any of the items you recommend!

Oh i almost forgot the most important mod I've ordered and am waiting for ! My genuine MOTOCHEEZ key tag! Thanks for looking!

What did you do with the breather tube for the crankcase when you added the pod filter?

PCV it and route it back to the intake is what I did on my China Bike would love to hear what was done on this HAWK

"Positive Crankcase Ventilation" off a car that fits the tubing... on my slightly smaller 197cc lifan engine I found one on my shelf that fit perfect, probably came from my 1995 Eagle Talon (2.0L non turbo) parts stash but I can't remember fully, it was a long time ago

It is still ran to the factory Airbox as I didn't intend to run a pod filter. The previous owner broke the intake tube and tried to repair it with some sort of silicone that did not take. So when I went to re jet it I pulled off the nppt and it kinda fell off lol. I'm going to order a replacement one next week.

Looks like you are off to a good start and have the right list of things to do. It seems an alternative to a full exhaust would be a TT250 header pipe. Somebody else ordered one and it seems they come without a cat in them. $24 plus shipping from CSC.

Whichever route you go, check the weld at the flange where the exhaust meets the head. They often protrude inside the pipe quite a lot and make for a heck of a flow restriction. Quick work with a dremel or die grinder will knock that back.

In my opinion, the best thing you can do with the crankcase ventilation hose is to cut the line, insert a PCV in the line (So the engine blows OUT, and can't suck air back in), put the cut off hose on the discharge side of the PCV, and run the hose down to where, if it drips oil at all, it drips it on the chain....ARH

I took my stock air box off and putting a pod,
Does the crankcase need to see vacuum for the crankcase? Hence the P in PCV? I will need to figure something out for it.

Positive Crankcase Ventilation. Running the crankcase with a partial vacuum is easier on the seals, and certainly far superior to the way it was set up originally. Inhaling and exhaling into the airbox on the dirty side of the filter is poor engineering, for obvious reasons...ARH

That picture is priceless. You have that "my old lady is going to kick my a** when I get home look" Great start on the mods. Defiantly would gut or remove the cat. That will be one of the biggest improvements.

Well, that's a relief. How does crankcase oil get on the filter, since it is vented to the clean side?...ARH

theres a cover that is not provided so the oil gets on the bottom of the filter as it is aimed right at it.
