Need help identifying ATV and ignition coil

Hello –
Newbie to the forum here. Was referred by VMC parts.

I’m searching for an ignition coil for a 50cc 2 stroke that has lost its spark. Here is what I know:
  • · Lil Guy 50
  • · VIN: LLCLSD2C551002438
  • · It does not have a CDI
  • · I replaced the stator coil plate– photo of bad one attached.
  • · I purchased a conventional ignition coil that would not work. I think because it doesn’t have a CDI
  • · I purchased a Voltage Regulator as something else to try – no luck here either.
  • · I have low voltage coming from the stator to the coil when attempting to start, but I don’t know how much it should be. ???
  • · No ground issues coming from safety / stop switches.
  • · I checked the resistance of the Ignition coil and get a good reading from one leg but 0 on the other. Someone told me you can’t really tell if these type coils are bad by checking them this way. ??? Photos of the coil are attached as well as the magnet.

My thoughts are it has to be the ignition coil or the magnets since the stator is new. Hopefully someone can lead me in the right direction.

Is your new stator working? Getting voltage when the engine turns over?

I'm guessing any 50cc 2 stroke coil in the same configuration would work. Most notably a single tab or wire just like your white wire. Does not have to visually look the same. here is an example.

The only thing I can think of is someone inserted a screwdriver for leverage to get the nut off....Sad at best.

I tried a conventional coil to no avail. I believe because it does not have the CDI

Thanks to all. With the help from Tortise and sending me to Scrappy Dog Scooters.com I was able to get the correct ignition coil. The little beast fired right up with the new coil and stator.

there are 2 voltages on these. brain still a bit foggy, but seems like some are 6 volt and some are 12volt units. had a smaller 90cc or so perhaps it was a 120 something and it turned out that the 12v wouldn't work so had to use a 6 volt unit on it. which voltage did it turn out to be?
