hawk 250 exhaust v clamp
so i was riding last weekend and heard something fall of the bike... looked around and didnt notice until today what it was... its the vclamp that connects the down pipe to the rest of the exhaust... the pipes are still connected but its obviously leaking there...
you guys think i should replace it? my hawk runs stronger and sounds better without it... if i were to replace it can you guys find the tt250 part? |

You will need to replace it. As far as i know the TT250 doesn't use that clamp. Maybe one of the members that installed the aftermarket exhaust will offer to sell you theres. You can try to get one from RPS but might take a long time to get it.

The proper term for this clamp is a "sanitary tri-clamp", and can be purchased at Mcmaster-carr. Measure your flange diameter for the proper size. I plan on safety-wiring mine at some point, but I also check mine before every ride.

Thanks Jeremy. Like this one. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XMY5K8J...281160368&th=1 just measure the "B" dimension before ordering.

I actually have mine laying in a box somewhere if all else fails, but the one linked (in the right size) should work just fine.
Just a word of advice with this style of clamp. Make sure to check and tighten it on a regular basis a few times after installing it. Before I swapped exhausts I would use a long screwdriver through the hole on the thumb screw to snug it up. After doing this a few times it finally stopped backing off from the thermal expansion and vibration. I still made it a point to at least check it from time to time. It's also a good idea to mark one side of the thumb screw so you can keep track of it's position. I used a center punch to mark one side.

Probably too expensive but if you never want it to fall off again:

Alternatively, take the thumb screw off the stock clamp and get a locknut, the style that has notches cut in it, not the nylon insert type. Put that and a regular nut in a stack in place of the thumb screw. |

Good idea or just double nut it. I've had no problems with mine. I have a habit of checking everything before I take of riding. It was loose the first few rides but no problems after that.

You can get a stainless t-bolt clamp for much less than a v-band. It's essentially the same thing, but without the v portion; it's just a flat clamp, much like a gear clamp but with a t-bolt. I've used several on exhaust systems (including my truck) and have yet to see one fail. I usually pay around $8.00 for them at the local plumbing shop that carries irrigation stuff.

Understood. The exhaust on most of my bikes uses a slip fit with a cylindrical gasket. I've never examined a flange fitting like on a Hawk.
