I actually have to agree with Jerry on that little detail. The gear indicator was quite handy during the break in period. Especially between 1st and 2nd in both directions.

It wasn't so bad with the stock gears because you could actually take off but with the taller gears it's a little harder getting going in 2nd.

And I wear the quietest helmet on the market - usually with attenuated ear plugs in, riding on a solid lifter air cooled single cylinder with open exhaust. Chances of hearing those gears.... lol.

the easy way to find 1st while stoped is...
just keep slight pressure on the gear lever & let the clutch out slowly till it go in...

^Very true. Except my bike had a random habit where it only likes to partially hit first or second, or give a false first from Neutral. No bad noises, no stiff movements. It only happened once the bike got hot, and it was extremely random. I had to click down for first from Neutral twice to actually get first gear. The first time showed 1 on the gear indicator, the second time actually clicked into gear. Then it never did it again for days on end. I checked clutch adjustment at both ends more than once to no avail. No bad noises, no harsh shifting, no false neutrals. I haven't experienced it for a while now (last 300 miles or so), but it sure was odd.

Pretty much the same experience I had. When it does happen I know it's time to adjust the clutch.
