Heat and Performance comparison TT250 vs. RX3

Though I recently bought a new TT250 and love it, I’m still intrigued by the RX3. I’m curious about the performance comparison in acceleration. The TT is lighter and geared lower so I would expext it to be faster, but the RX3 has more power and torque so in a 0-60 race they may be similar. I know there are a few of you out there who own both so I would appreciate your input.

Also, what about the roll on performance of each ?

The next question is about heat. The TT throws off a little heat on a hot day but it is not objectionable at all. But I’ve heard that the RX3 can roast you on a hot day. Is that accurate ?

I have to agree.... Seems ass backwards but liquid cooled motors seem, to me, to act like huge heaters.

the water is taking the heat from the engine and putting it out into the air for you to feel

the RX3 is air cooled...
stop the air flow and watch it over heat..

Liquid cooled bikes seem to run "hotter" because they are able to be run with leaner fueling, higher compression, more aggressive timing, and so on due to the much higher transfer of thermal energy through water (roughly speaking 25 times greater than air).

Since they are much more stable thermally, they can be tuned much more aggressively without melting down or self destructing. The heat on the outside is a good thing.

Want to experience the thermonuclear heat of a liquid cooled bike, sit on any modern super sport or large sport touring bike (My VFR or the Hayabusa) where the engines are running 13:1 or higher compression, very aggressive timing, an capable of spinning very high RPM. Motorcross race bikes like the CRF450R are also on that same level of tune. Basically a race motor, with all of the race motor heat to go with it.

Both the RX3 and the TT run "normally hot". I don't notice anything different between them and any other bikes I've owned. BUT....I do notice on both of our RX3s that you feel it more on your right knee or shin because of the air blowing through the right radiator. The left radiator is unnoticeable.

Performance, the TT has more bottom right off the throttle. It's that typical friendly CG motor power band. Like an old straight six.

Though overall more powerful, the stock RX3 is a bit pipey for my tastes. It kind of acts like a two stroke with half the power of the equal sized two stroke. The 300cc kit really helps the power band and makes it much more friendly. More "CG-ish".

2LZ, thanks for the clear comparison. Now I know what to expect should I decide to venture into the RX3 world.

yes so some run hotter then others bigger the engine more heat it is going to put off too, along with like Dan said compression ratio ,as well as where you live an how hot it is outside too, though some engines will run the same no matter the temp outside others like cooler temps, when up to operating temps ,will put out the same amount of heat ,at say 70 F or 50f temp will be the same ,you may not feel it is as much at 50,but they will all vary, take my 406 sbc with 3 core radiator on hotter days it uses a bit more coolant then it would on a 50f as the 70f day ,but thats from a bike engine the a car engine an high performance engines will allways run hotter ,
