Hawk 250 brake calipers

So as I am looking over the bike, I noticed the calipers only cover a little more than half the rotors. Have any of you replaced/upgraded the stock calipers with ones that fit the rotor better? Thanks for any info!

Yeah, I think most of us have noticed as well. I had considered looking into either a rotor and caliper swap, or as you suggest, even just a different caliper. I just haven't put in the research yet. I find the stock brakes adequate enough given the power the bike makes.

That said, a larger rotor in the 290 to 320mm range and a 4 piston front caliper would be kind of nice for road use, I have to admit.

Yeah, I think a 320mm rotor along with a 4 piston caliper is EXACTLY what I want on an on-road/off-road bike....ARH

It's not the size of the brake that would be the issue, just the hand behind it.

Plus, that idea was mainly for road use, not off road. As I said, the stock brake is adequate given the bike in question.

Is the Hawk the 2 piston or 1 piston caliper?
I havent seen other styles of caliper for this type of bike - I do how ever have a 4 piston on my RX3 but very different animal.

Almost all China MX type bikes run the 2 piston caliper not the single piston anymore

I don't know about y'all but my brakes are great. And being that I'll never have to brake it down quickly from 120mph I'm not planning on upgrading them.

Same here, no problem with the brakes. Be sure to clean the rotors real good before using the bike to remove the oily film.

I have a different standard for "great" when it comes to brakes. My VFR will stop as fast from 120 to 0 than my hawk will from 40 to zero. That doesn't mean the Hawk brakes are bad by any measure, but I will only ever call them adequate. twin 320mm front with 6 piston monoblock radial calipers and a 4 piston 256mm rear brake with big wide sticky street tires kind of spoiled me. That being said, my Hawk stops about as well as my GL1000 did, so I wouldn't call it bad by any measure either. To make it a fair comparison, if my VFR didn't have ABS, braking on gravel/dirt would be terrifying.

Ehh, braking out the big guns I see lol. My 400 Scrambler comes with "great" brakes at the wheels, 3 large disks. But they dropped the ball when it comes to applying said brakes. On the left handle bar there's one lever to work both front brakes AND the rear brake. Stopping was poor to say the least and your hand would get tired and sore quickly. The rear brake can be operated with your right foot but the lever is short and hard to press, and using it in combination with the "all brakes" lever didn't really help.

So I split the 2 systems, put a Honda Recon master cylinder on the right handle bar after tapping it out to fit the Polaris front brake line. And also extended the rear brake lever buy 2" for more leverage. Now I can stop on a dime even from 90mph and my hand doesn't get tired and sore. I've convinced a couple of my Polaris buddies to do the same after seeing how well it works.

So I was looking around and seen that a company made front and rear brake caliper protectors for the Hawk a few years back...

The links are dead now, does anyone have a valid link to these?

Thanks
