Mystery Pinging noise

I have a hawk clone and I've noticed when accelerating I'm second gear and up I hear a noise that resembles rocks hitting the bottom of the engine guard possibly front wheel. I figure it's pre ignition so I change to 92 octane fuel. Same noise. I have my gf ride with to show her. Never makes the noise maybe extra weight is changing something. I have her get off and the noise is there again. I go recheck all the bolts. No change.
Ideas?

My front sprocket made that noise when the retainer plate wore. I took off the sprocket cover and the sprocket wiggled to much, replaced the retainer plate and it's been quiet ever since. There was zero wear on the counter shaft and sprocket was new on the 2 I tried. Others have made the same post on that noise.

I'd be shocked if it's pinging, unless you're at max load up a hill, running 70 octane gas, with both brakes dragging, then it might ping. On regular, low octane US gas, it'll never ping, unless something went crazy with the ignition timing. I'd check and make sure nothing is loose that's possibly causing the sound. You could always buy a timing light and check the timing, or try changing the CDI if it's ignition related.

A small exhaust leak in the gasket between the head and header pipe can make a sound somewhat like pinging.

It could also be the SAI system, too, or, if it has an air cutoff valve, that could be malfunctioning. Have you adjusted the pilot jet or the jetting in general? It could pop under decel if it's running lean. No matter what, running premium is just a waste of money.

Come on folks.. if the sound goes away with extra weight on it, it's drivetrain related. Check chain and sprockets, and the rear wheel hub and front and back wheel bearings.

Check your spokes as well and chain tension.

if weight changes it...
then I would be looking at the drive chain area..
ie…. more weight rear suspension is compressed more
chain is tighter/different angle... etc..
