Whats your DIY way of dealing with missing plastics?

I lost a right side fender (which covers battery) on a wandering trail ride (not even sure where to go back and look). Seems availability and delivery time is going to greatly delay the delivery of a replacement.

What methods / materials do you use to make temporary (or permanent) replacements?

A neat idea I picked up out there is to make a skid plate out of a plastic cutting board - seemed like people had some really slick results. Have you ever done something like this for plastics/fenders?

Look around locally for some used cheap plastics from a different bike and tie wrap them on .
