How many turns out did you set the idle mixture from lightly seated? I've seen the stock carbs idle mixture set anywhere from almost all the way closed to 1 1/4 turn out. Mine was about a 1/4 turn out and reset it to 1 1/2 turns out. That seems to be prefect for my bike.
Also check that your float is not hung up. Crack open the bowl drain and see if you have fuel in the bowl.

Happy one-day-late birthday, Joe Schutts.

Getting to 70 is ok, but you have to remember every day:

Vertical and above ground.

Make that, and the day should be good. Been there, done that.
tom

It has been too cold to ride. Spouse said I would freeze, but figured I was tough.
Got partway down the drive, barely 10mph, pulled over and got a different pair of gloves as my hands were too cold using the riding. Now with leather, took off. Was okay, but stopped to fully zip up. Rode about a half mile @45, turned onto a slower road, and then again onto an even slower, about 25-30. Rode about another 1/2 mile and decided it was too bleepin' cold. Turned around, went home. Shivered for a while.
Found the wind chill, not even in motion, was, as I recall, 26F when I got home.
She was right. (Yeah, I told her she was, too...)

Only turned it 1/4 out from factory settings so I haven't done a proper tune on it quite yet. Spark plug should be arriving today so I'll check float, idle air, and if the engine is flooded tomorrow

Should have checked the simple things first ignition was disconnected I guess from when I put the airbox panel back on. Fired right up. Finally got the carb af mixture set proper and my new spark plug in, but I guess you sent the rain my way jerry so no chance today to see how it runs.

LOL, I'm not going to lie. When i changed my spark plug I must of not pushed it all the way on. After two days of riding my bike started running funny. When i got home i was going to remove the plug to see how it looked and the boot was just barely setting on the plug. Don't know how it was even running.

Ever notice how much the new RE Meteor looks like the Ghost? Must be a coincidence.

It is supposed to be R. Enfield's entry level bike with a 350. I believe the Ghost copied Harley styling, and I do think that the Meteor looks a bit Harley-ish; I do like the Meteor's looks for sure, and even the Ghost is starting to grow on me (minus the windshield ) thanks to this Jerryhawk thread. I will say, I was a fan of the 1st generation Ghost's looks.

Well Jerry I just watched your latest video, and to me the Hawk sounds the best. If it were me I'd probably straight pipe the Ghost. Jay's 1600cc Yamaha has custom straight pipes on it and that thing literally shakes the ground around it. But there have been studies that show excessive noise levels can cause fatigue and loss of concentration. But no matter what, Culcune and I are counting on you removing that god awful windshield in the spring when the temps come back up.

Audio on the video does no justice. The Hawk is the loudest on the road. It does get annoying on a long trip. Ghost is just about the right noise level. I'm sure I wake the neighbors at 5am. Lol. Wind shield will come off but right now it's the only reason I will ride in colder temperatures. Does a good job of blocking the cold wind.

Looking and sounding good! I really like that windshield on the HAWK. I think you shaped a piece of plexiglass before but where did you get the smoked piece and how did you do it? Double sided tape?

It's a clear piece of plexiglass. I sprayed the back side black. I used 3M double stick tape. I have a thread on here somewhere on how I did it. I used a propane torch to heat up the plastic an form it. You can use a heat gun as well.

Jerry

Thank you for taking the time to do the video. Very impressive.

Hit around 620 miles today on my ghost and had my first issue. Unless the odometer on these bikes has a trip mode that can suddenly activate, my miles jumped back to 0 on my commute to work. Other than that bike has been great so far, although lacking in oomph at the top end. Going to gut the cat and install a slip on soon to see if that will satisfy me for now and if not, probably going to look into installing a pair of cams.

As far as I know there is no trip meter unless there is some hidden reset button. No need to Chan's the muffler. It has no restrictions. Just removing the cat will wake it up. I'll be swapping the cam in the next month or so. I already have a ported head sitting on my shelf ready to go. I just need to deck it to bump up the compression ratio.
