New HAWK owner

I want to say right off that those on this forum have done a tremendous job of providing the knowledge on these machines. Thanks to this forum I felt comfortable enough to buy a HAWK and will be able to take it to its potential.

So it came last week and where to begin? I have subscribed to the philosophy that better to correct problem areas before they happen, so beginning means stripping it down to build it up.

Maybe I have not found it but a good description or even a video on swapping the wheel bearings would be good. Having done considerable work on cars I am familiar with wheel bearings as they exist in that format but these are different. After looking at special tools for $60 to pull hidden bearings, trying some concrete anchors I finally settled where I have been many times, with a drift and hammer and it served me well albeit resulting in a left thumb bruise (twice). I got them out both wheels and I think saved the seals too. Prior to removal they would not turn well but after the hammer they seemed better but with alot of play. Not much grease either. Got new ones ordered from ALLBalls.

I have seen mention to loctite "ALL bolts." Does this include all engine bolts?

I want to upgrade the carburetor someday and I think the accelerator carb is the way to go but I want to get more familiar with the replacement carb and the bike before I make the change. Where can you get JETS that fit for the stock carburetor? Do the JET links for the MIKUNI 30 work in the stock carb?

Bolts on the actual engine itself, I haven't had a need to unless I already removed them. I.E. The front sprocket cover bolts once I removed them I added a little dab of medium strength to them. Mainly it is items like the motor mount bolts, brake bolts (caliper and rear master cylinder), handlebar clamp bolts, etc. The other option would be lock washers, at least on items like the motor mount bolts. Or go overkill and do both lol. I go so far as to put a tiny bit on the screws for the plastic panels, because I have had those come loose. If you do those bolts, make sure you have JIS screwdrivers or you will strip the heads out quickly.

As far as jets that fit the stock carb. The stock pilot jet has no aftermarket replacement. The cheap main jets like the wingsmoto kit for the Mikuni do also work on the stock carb, and are what most people use to tune it. Genuine jets will also work, but since they are cut to the specific thread type of the Mikuni, which is just ever so slightly different from the genuine keihin, they will get a little tight as you get close to seating them. It won't cause any damage, just be aware of it.

Outstanding...I am new to motorcycle engines but have rebuilt many two and four barrel carburetors but I never realized how much went into a motorcycle carburetor and how much tuning for altitude an

Took the carb apart today and shimmed the needle valve with two washers. The idle mixture was about 1 1/4 so turned it out to 1 1/2. Main jet is 98.

Waiting on wrench to do the triple tree and front forks. Gonna take a couple of months to get it back together.

Thanks for info!

Just received my bike and I want to begin the build. My bike didn’t come with installation manual. I have been reading and am ready for build. Is there a build manual? . My other question is the bike came with a bag of bolts, screws, washers etc. are they all needed? Or are their a lot of spare parts? If I can get some help to identify I would like to take pictures for others identifying parts so future builders know what is what?

1st off, welcome to the site. Lots of good info here.
The bag of bolts and washers is kinda funny. Mine used every part given but I've hear tales of people getting extra. It may be a "mind game" the Chinese are playing with us. Lol!

Like everyone said, use locktite on items you dont want falling off (which is probably everything). Personally I've used red on the sprocket nuts and bolts. Orange on the axles and shock bolts, and blue on pretty much everything else. I didn't use any on my engine bolts but if I see one come loose I'll probably give it some lock washers and a drop of blue.

Have fun with your new bike!

There is tons of info. I’m hoping as I build my first I can eventually contribute...

Are these bike supposed to come with a build manual? How do you know where to put all the parts in the bag? Mine didn’t come with manual.

My tbr7 came with a small owner's manual that was rather vague and many words misspelled (apparently my bike has 3 fuel valve positions, "off", "res", and "no"- lol). But no assembly instructions for the bike but.... there was a very nice assembly manual for my hand guards included.

So please help me figure out:

1. Where do other screws go if not into farings?

2. Where do the 2 grommets go with no opening on the end?

3. Where do other rubber washers and metal washers go?

2. Where do the 2 grommets go with no opening on the end? Those go on the lower triple tree. Your there are two prongs on the bottom of your head light housing that will insert into them.

3. Where do other rubber washers and metal washers go? You might have plenty of extras on those. I know i did.

Also realize that if you save the two nuts from the metal frame that is compressing the 2 front forks they fit perfectly on the chain adjuster screws to double lock the nuts and keep them from coming off.
