Commuting to work I averaged 75 mpg. Very pleased with my little bike.

That is good. I have only been getting about 65. Maybe the next round of mods will help. Probably not since I will be jetting the carb.

My best has been just over 70mpg.
I am usually in the 65-70 range. I did notice that my exhaust was alittle sooty. I cleaned the air filter the other day. It was pretty dirty. Allen

With the 46 tooth rear sprocket, I am most comfortable at 50 mph.

06 Lifan 200 GY-5 gets better gas mileage than my Rodeo or my Camry with all the mods, didn't buy it for that purpose but it seem's to fit now...

My co- workers 1000km ,08' crf230l gets 63 mpg...started at 53mpg,got 65mpg one tank(all commute NO trail)...but the last couple tanks he concentrated on consistant commute and "nice" riding...seems 63 is all he can average. And that is the top of the Line Jap "200"enduro fellas. So I would be happy that your 198cc gets as good as milage as brand new tech with only a handful more CC's ( I know there is no replacement for displacement, but that is a 10 mpg trade off. I expect that those 250 enduros are spot on for fuel consumption as most are 230cc.
Oh and BTY Canadian Gallons are larger than U.S. so by rights this honda should go 70mpg as well. All totaled Canadian CRF 230 L, including app. taxes was $6500.00 That price I will buy 4 chinese 250 mx and drive the pizz out of them and dispose at will...I should get 10 years of riding or 4 people could have a lot of cheap fun for a couple years  ...no resale mind you...but that could change.

I didn't buy my bike for mpg. OK, that's what I told my wife, but I just wanted a legal dirt bike.
But now I'm thinking of using if for more commuting so as a challenge to myself I'm shooting for the best MPG I can squeeze out of it. Back when I got it I moved the carb needle, NGK plug, put on K&N type air mod, drilled the exhaust, I think that's it for air/fuel mods. I'm thinking about moving the needle clip back to stock or just down 1 clip instead of all the way. Do you guys think I would see any difference? Or is the best way for us to get the highest mpg to weigh as little as possible, duck down like we're riding a crotch rocket and be light on the throttle? What's your take? Thanks! |

My guess is that you would get the best mileage by leaving things mostly stock, putting on hard and narrow street tires, shifting at low RPMs, keeping speed down to 35 mph or less where possible.

Well I think my new UNI filter, 108 main jet and moving the clip to the bottom won't help, but I not expecting a big drop.
It is still running a little lean up top. It was popping slightly on decel so I may need alittle larger jet. Allen

mpg's
I've been a fuel economy nut since the late 70's when the first gas shortage scare came out, and I'm still doing it. My two geo metro convertibles are turning in consistent 51mpgs and sometimes higher on highway trips. I've got my FJR1300 pushin out 46 city and 51 hwy.
For MPG's, you wanna keep the machine's mostly stock...airbox and exhaust mods are designed to get you more power...flow more air (which means more gas). Since bikes have crappy aerodynamics, the only real tweak areas you have are gears and ignition. Put in a good quality plug so you burn all the fuel in the chamber, and gear the bike for lower rpm at your typical cruising speed. I have no data yet on my qh200gy because I just finally got the plates for it today and it needs breaking in. Yes, synth oil can get you a small mpg gain, but I run it cuz I hate rebuilding engines.... Over the next couple months I should have some good data in, my goal is 95mpg for a general cruising speed of 60. -RevDuck |

since I reverted back to the 98 jet and using the 42 sprocket my mileage has gone up quite a bit. I was getting a consistent 60 mpg with the 115 jet and now hit 70 or more. On back roads Saturday not exceeding about 45 mph I went 103 km on .78 gallons of gas. that is pretty dang good. I had no idea that the 115 jet would use so much more fuel.
