Here's a cool way to use those 'soft straps' they sell on Amazon for hauling bikes. Just hook-em-up with a ratchet strap to your rafter or lag-bolt. The bike stays perpendicular and is off the ground by 5 cranks.

Too soft or too hard

After installing the Amazon shock, I felt like it settled/sunk/sagged way to much for me. It was just too soft, so I pulled it out and using a couple of C-clamps to relive some of the pressure on the spring, I used channel-locks to turn the pre-load to the highest setting. All is good in the world again, nice and firm from the get-go! (And 1-1/2 inch lower.)

Spark Arrestor

There is the coolest place that we Denverite's have for riding mountain trails that is only 35 miles south-west of the Denver area. It is called Rampart Range and it has over 200 miles of trails and the elevations vary between 6000 and 8000 ft. Even if you have plates, you need to register with the Division of Wildlife to ride the trails there and it's only $25.50 for a yearly pass (covers the whole state and includes motorcycles, Jeeps, ATV's and snowmobiles). There are 2 basic rules, 1) the sound level must be under 96 decibels and 2) it MUST have a spark arrestor. The US Forest service is the law in these parts...and with all the fires we've had...they do not mess around! Here is the non-profit site that promotes it:
http://rampartrange.org/

So...my bike apparently didn't come with one as I can stick a coat-hanger all the way down it. I bought one of those cone-types on Amazon ($12.99), and installed it between the tail-cone and the baffles.

This is the one I should have bought, with the first one I just folded the tip over-real easy.

Spark Arrestor 2

I also included a pic of the heat-shield, it'll really help with those saddle-bags.

Smooth as silk!

I know, excessive bragging about your bike is looked down upon, but I just can't help but saying that Bashan really seems to have built a nice bike with this BSR 250! It started and idled right from the get-go and with my piddling around the neighborhood seems to run perfect, with no bogging or loss of power, it seems to run just right! Of course I am at 6000 ft. altitude and the factory lean carb is more than likely tuned to this elevation. Also, having owned my own heavy equipment (skid loaders, backhoes, etc...) and no stranger to welding, the welds on this bike look pretty dang nice! Another common complaint people have is the difficulty shifting the transmission into neutral. This bike slips into neutral seriously easy and smooth...ever since the first start. I am impressed!

Another thing, I haven't looked at what this bike uses for headlight bulbs...but I took it out last night and it lit up the whole street and down to the glen! (Gotta watch out for those Hobbits!)

Edit: 6/7...Looking inside the headlight, it says H6 on the lettering surrounding the bulb. Is that good?
Re-edit...after looking real good with a flashlight the H is just part of the parts number. I don't know what it is...probably an H4.

Dog days!

Why is it that when I get a new project to mess with my dog seems to gravitate towards it as a napping area! Also attached new saddlebags ($15) from the rainforest company.

'Motocheez' says in the video, "I need a bag on the back of this...don't I?"

If you noticed about an inch of my saddlebag touches my exhaust baffle. Checking it after riding, the temperature is a little hotter than I like...so it's going to get some fiberglass matting attached in that corner.

Herbie, my Dad had a couple of strokes a few years ago so my family decided he needed a "small" pet to keep him company. He named him 'Barney' as he was born in a barn on a cattle ranch. He's a New Zealand Border Collie.

Great story, I hope your dad is doing better today! I thought Barney looked like a border collie.
Here is a picture of Windie, she was a great dog, a border collie as well. We named her windie because she just blew in like the wind! She just showed up at our door one day and the rest is history. Super smart and loyal dogs.

New tool for the Bashan

I saw this cool USB charger from someone on here, but I can't remember who. Also installed the phone-holder for the ultimate in knowing your exact speed with GPS. The USB unit reads the temperature and voltage! 32.2 Celsius is 90 degrees Fahrenheit! Hot Enchilada! Also looks like I need to find a shorter phone cord. HAHA! If you look just above the speedometer you will see the Barn-dog, he looks like a calf!
