Can anyone do the math for me to have same gearing as a 17t but change the rear. Stock 45 t i believe for the rear

I have a 17t on the front of my Magician. I didnt do any grinding or anything to the front cover. I did buy a longer chain. The type I used was a T428H. The keeper is installed in the normal position.

I couldn't get a 17 on mine either. I ended up putting a 16t on. It gets up to 62 to 63 on gps.

Mmm. Maybe some Magicians are different. Mine is a 21. You definitely cant use an O-ring or super heavy duty chain but a roller fits fine. I helped someone else a few days ago too and it worked for them. Check my old post I had the part.# for the chain I used.

Mine fit fine. The cover goes on well too. I'm thinking maybe your chain is too heavy duty, or an o-ring chain. I have about 500 miles with this setup with no issues.

Does your stock chain fit around the sprocket? I know it's too short but the size is the same as the aftermarket one I bought.

The problem with changing the rear sprocket on a magician is that the bolts are too close too the chain. It can be done but the sprocket is very difficult to find and sometimes had to be made special. Are you sure you have a 428 front sprocket and not a 530?

It's the exact same engine as the Hawk, covers and all. The issue is variances in the castings and machining. Between 2 Hawks, I ran into the same problem with different severity. My first Hawk I just sanded back the cover where it contacted a bit and it would go on and off with minimal fuss. My current Hawk I had to cut and grind away part of the inner cover at the base about half an inch. Functions just fine and it still shields everything from dirt and grime like it should.

Basically, once you get the cover on it functions fine. The issue is when trying to install or remove the sprocket cover the chain interferes with the inner portion of the cover and binds up against the chain a little bit. This is just because the cover has to tilt back some to be removed. If it installed straight on and off this would never be a problem.
