Red I'll check into one of those. I'm in toronto and have repeatedly been stopped in traffic on an air cooled bike. Thankfully, I'm a smoker. I'll pull over and have a smoke when it's stop and stop traffic. Several times with my bike I've pulled over, shut it off and listened for sharp pings from the metal of the engine. Loud pings of metal cooling, or anything irregular but nope. At least that's what I was told to do.

Yeah..Im assuming you were in first gear right, possibly even stick it in neutral and sit, but for sure dont sit there with the engine over heating, hopefully there is nothing burning on the engine, maybe soap water and rinse.... :?:

5 mins is my max, learned that with BMW Airheads.

Little known factoid...California legalized lane splitting because of the BMW Airheads...rich guys, expensive bikes, didn't want to shut them down and they were very very easily damaged by overheating.

For setting the timing and balancing the carbs, the BMW book specifies a high flow fan be placed at the front of the bike, blowing over the heads, so you don't overheat while setting....

I have them on my bike, my ATV and my sons ATV, (even put one on my fire stove chimney!) They work great.

My SL100 would start popping and the idle would become very irratic if it idled too long.

My Viva will spontaneously backfire pretty loud when she gets hot- mostly during the breakin.

Been a few weeks since the last firecracker she's set off. :wink:

I was think of mounting a cooling fan to the front frame with a switch.

The oil cooler would help too.
