I remember seeing a base with a removable trunk someone had installed on their bike.

I have a similar deal mounted on my Hawk, because I had it on hand from another bike I had. It allows for very quick removal ( just a few seconds) of the trunk, and serves as a rack when nothing is attached. I got tired of running the trunk, and made an excellent, and very large tailbag from a big sports type backpack that I picked up for nearly nothing in a thrift shop with the Woman. I permanently mounted it to a thin board that I shaped to attach like the trunk. I can remove, or attach either the trunk, or tailbag in seconds. I actually favor the backpack/ tailbag. It holds more than the trunk, and has no problem holding a full face helmet, and jacket. It looks just like a tailbag, and is collapsible and will snap down pretty flat . I am cheap, and I bought KemiMoto bicycle bags that Amazon was sell for a huge discount, I'm thinking about $19.00 marked down from around $40.00 or so. They were an older style, but I am pleased with them. They have a rubber like inner lining, and good quality cloth, and zippers. They were set too narrow to use like a throw over set, so I cut them apart, and folded the material over, and sewed them to keep them from fraying, and then sewed straps into each . We have a little shop in town that buys Amazon return pallets, and sell things for half of Amazon price, and I bought a three piece Waterfly bicycle bag set from them for $26.00 or $27.00, and have had them on my TBR7 almost since I got it. They are waterproof, and roomy, and the side bags are separate, and have steel attachment hooks. It didn't take much rigging to mount them on the TBR7.

I use a Rubbermaid Action Packer because it's cheap, sturdy, and keeps out dust and rain. Always attach a rope between the box and lid so you don't loose the lid.

I bought a 100 Liter bag on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/WILD-HEART-Wa..._dp&th=1&psc=1

I strap the bag to my rear rack.

I rode through a couple heavy rainstorms and all my gear stayed dry. It's easy to roll and collapse. When filled, it acts as a nice lower back support!!

20L Tail bag, and I just got the CSC rear rack plate, but it fit fine without it. Perfect size to fit shoes, a hoodie, lunch, and a few odds and ends for work commutes. Surprisingly good quality for it's price, but still not as good as some of the better known brands. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

60L Saddle bags (with other camping gear on top). Quite good actually, they've gotten me on numerous camping trips and spent many days down dirt roads. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...e?ie=UTF8&th=1

Tank bag. This is actually a leg bag, which at first I thought might be handy on longer trips, but as it turns out it fits the tank quite nicely. It needs some "manual" adjustment to keep it snug, but I love it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've had good luck with this one https://www.amazon.com/Emgo-72-32440...e%2C583&sr=1-7

I did break one base/mount once crossing a drainage on a gravel road similar to a big whoop. I was standing and shifted my weight back a little too far and fast which broke the trunk free with my rear. To my delight the trunk was only scuffed which wasn't bad since I was going about 40 at the time.

For mostly road or non-technical rides I'll run aluminum panniers and soft panniers for off-road or more technical rides. Both sets of my panniers are now out of production so no links.
