Metric bolt replacements

I was wondering where you all find/source bolts that rattle off on the happy trail.

I have a 150cc QIYI coolster quad that a couple of bolts went missing. One bolt in question on the head its printed ZT 8.8

Dr. Google was not much help. Where do you all find (or source/reference) bolt replacements?

So, every single fastener I've removed from both of my Chinese bikes has been regular Metric coarse thread. Outside of possibly engine mounts, subframe bolts, footpeg mounts, and axles I don't think the hardness rating of the fasteners you use matters too much.

The "8.8" stamped on the head of your bolt means class 8.8 hardness. You can read more about hardness ratings here:

https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/s...es-d_1428.html

Hardness determines some of the properties of the bolt including its shear strength, tensile strength, etc.

You can source bolts from any old place; the only requirement is that you get the right size and more importantly thread pitch. I prefer to use stainless hardware which you can either order from specialty bolt suppliers online or just get from the Usual Scumbags on Amazon. Flange head bolts are nice for anywhere that the bolt head will be exposed, because you can capture them on the end of your socket wrench and won't need a washer in most cases.

All of the common fasteners you will find on your bike should be one of these metric sizes:

M4x0.70
M5x0.80 (uncommon, although my RXB has a couple of bodywork screws in this size)
M6x1.0 (the majority of fasteners on the bike for sure)
M8x1.25
M10x1.50

Note that the bolt size describes the diameter of the threaded shank and its thread pitch and has nothing to do with the size of wrench used to remove the bolt.

My go-to is Ace Hardware for most bolt solutions.

There are little kits called “track packs “ ,full of common motorcycle hardware available online and I have a local power sports dealership that sells them ,handy to have and you can carry them with you on the bike ,with a descent assortment of stuff ,and the quality of the ones I can get locally is pretty good .

What it ended up being was M12-1.00 x 30MM

I found something at Autozone that is stronger but longer so I needed to add a few washers.

Life is but a learning experience......

M12 threads? That's a chunky bolt for a small motor

Quad rear axle support. Two bolts rattled off and the chain jumped ship. Easy enough fix but locating the same bolts proved the most challenging. I was temped to drill out the welded nuts and just throw some grade 8 bolts and nuts in.

All is good, thanks for all the help. I am never disappointed on the support from this group.

In my dinky little SC town, in the small family-owned century-old hardware store, I have found every metric bolt or nut I have needed on my Chinese and Japanese bikes.
