08 AL GY-5 from motoxtreme + my experience so far

Chronology (after many weeks of online research):

THU 6.19.08 11:00am - emailed Brian @ motoxtreme.net with a few questions
THU 6.19.08 2:42pm - received response from Brian
FRI 6.20.08 2:30pm - Ordered (paypal) 2008 LF200GY-5 from Brian @ motoxtreme.net
SAT 6.21.08 9:33pm - Confirmation of payment received from Brian
FRI 6.27.08 4:30pm - Called Brian to check status of order, he said it was on its way
THU 7.03.08 3:15pm - GY-5 Received

THU 7.03.08 5:00pm - Emailed Brian inquiring about assembly instructions
THU 7.03.08 11:20pm - Assembly instructions received
FRI 7.04.08 9:00pm - Assembly completed, including bike PREP (locktite, oil change, etc)
SAT 7.05.08 10:00am - First Ride = SWEET :!:

Issues:

* Bike wouldn't start initially without moving the throttle a very small amount,
adjusted idle screw to no avail, adjusted throttle cable near throttle, starts easier now
* Choke cable was broken - see image
* Seat does not bear Lifan name - see image

Issue Status:

* Bike doesn't always start easily, but it appears to do better each time
* Waiting for new choke cable (not really needed yet)
* Still discussing seat issue

* Waiting for Paperwork (anxiously

)

Comments received:

* Wow, it looks better in person than it did in the pictures.

My Status:

* So far I am very happy, haven't been able to test it out too much, since there is no good place to ride until I am able to get tags. Can't wait to put some more miles on it (or is that kilometers

Got mine from Evo Sales and didn't have the Lifan name on the seat either, looks like you have the same seat I do... don't know what that means if anything.

I sent a PM on the assembly instructions, thanks.

Lifan is a very good bike. Ordered mine through Brian. the bike has been very solid. Do the c-clip mod trust me it is worth your time.

I have had two real issues with my lucy lu. I took her off roading and hit the rear brake to turn. somewhere I lost a bolt that I installed. opps :oops: wrapped the drum around the axel.

then some under paid worker put the relay on the wrong way and I was without electric start for two days.

well lucy lu now has 2,500 miles on her and I ride her harder every day.

watch your nuts and bolts and enjoy the 4.99 per gallon gas prices.

oh yes another suggestion I posted for another user here. get some die electric grease on the starter connecters. I just had to clean a whole lot of crud off my starter connecter it will save you trouble down the road.

I second the E clip mod, drop it to the bottom, and you will never need the choke. Consider a Denso IX 24 iridium spark plug from bike bandit. Starting AND idleing a cold engine is push button instant

Put the Clip on the bottom today.
Not sure if it helped the starting issue or not, bike was already warm.

Was easy to do though, just took the tank off and did it with the carb in place.

:?: for you GY-5ers out there. If you did remove or cover your BIG #5 how did you do it?

I've decided to leave mine. My thought is someone will see it and think "wow, what a dork", but the point will be: Someone will SEE it. Maybe not : /

Mine appears to be UNDER the nice clear coat, so no peeling for me :(

Yeah they are cleared over, but you can still remove it... When I had my gy5, I ordered a gy2 headlight fairing, since it was the same, and same red color, without the decals... I believe the blue is different though.

Also received green seat from katoranger (awesome to deal with)

So I put it on the GY5, took at pic, and photoshopped (which you can tell if you look closely) the rest of the red plastic green and made the white plastic black.

Hope to do this for real someday, but it probably won't look this good.
