use krylon fusion. also remove all grease and waxes with acetone. if the primer does not lay correctly sand with 350 or higher grit paper.

You shouldn't have to worry about grease if you sand, where you sand. I'd sand anything and everything I was going to paint anyway.

I'd go with 400grit or higher. (home depot.) Krylon fusion is the stuff for sure. It dries fast. Recoat 5 times in ten minutes. It can go on a little heavier too. Not like rust paint. If you spray too thin it's like little dots. Just right and it's an even seamless coat. If too much, it drips, leave it for a day, re-sand and recoat a couple times, no worries. I was impressed with the results.

If I remember back correctly there were people that painted their bike and the plastic panels over the gas tank gave them problems.

Apparently the gas fumes penetrated the plastic and messed up the paint job.

I never painted mine (well the stock ones) so I cant say first hand.

I've had grease but not gas on my krylon, so I wouldn't know. Good call T/C, now that you say it, I think I remember it too. I've used lots, heaps of armor all on the krylon and that's keep them looking good but gas will eat almost everything. I wonder how the bed liner is doing around the gas tank. Haven't people been using something like rhino liner to coat their plastics???????

Krylon Fusion works wonders except for gas. Eats it right off. VERY quickly. Scratches pretty easy too if you take off through the woods like I do. hehe

After you paint it use clear coat. That will help protect it from gas and chipping.Thats how most cars are done.
