Anyone else riding in the snow?

We had 18 cms of snow on Saturday, although it's starting to melt off. I rode to work the last two days......people here think I'm nuts.

No snow yet........

cold temps and rain though.
18 degrees on my front porch the other morning.
I keep riding
Everybody at work says the same thing as you get
Then I tell them about the cost for insurance and my gas mileage
Keep on riding
Bill

Please be careful, I have rode the streets in snow in the past and it can be fun at first. As time goes by and you get more ice situations things can unexpectedly get dicey really fast. From icy patches that snow has drifted over to hidden ruts under fresh powder, snow can really help the road bite you in the butt!
It is not the snow that gets you but the ice it's hiding: from my experience anyway

I dont ride in the snow on the roads ever not so much of the safety thing but more as the salt and what it does to the bikes.

I have ridden on frozen lakes (what a BLAST) but that was when I was much younger but it would still be fun today as long as I dont fall.

Aside from the obvious danger of riding on the roads in snow/ice is that very few people would ever expect to see a motorcycle or would even think to look for one out there on the snowy roads.

I promise I'll be careful (if I do ride in the snow).
SWMBO will definitely have a say in whether I do that or not.

Looking at the pictures brings back a night at work (small town hospital ICU) in 1986.
We had a pretty good snow one week (for Mississippi).
I had a Suzuki Quadsport at the time and had it in the truck bed in preparation to go hunting (I mean sleeping under a tree ) the next morning.
'Bout 2AM one of our EMTs came up to my unit and asked if I had "the scooter in my truck?" "Yes, why d'ya want to know?"
"Can we ride it in the parking lot? "
Needless to say, I watched them from the 4th floor window doing donuts in the doctors office parking lot next door.
Bet that staff wondered where the "snow circles" came from when they came in that morning.
Thanks for the memory.
Bill

Sure have. Been riding in the snow for two weeks. Here's my baby...

Oh did you mean a motorcycle?? Nah, the Roketa's been laid up for a while now. Don't want road salt getting on it.

That looks more suited to snow

I won't ride on the road in the snow, or ice...

We've got some stuff up here they use now other then salt, some sort of chemical they spray, that stuff is way more corrosive then salt... I forget what it's called, but not a fan...

The only real problems with it would be forgetting your on ice and snow and other traffic, to be cautious you would have to go 10-20 under the speed limit, Im not sure if you do slow it down or not, but driving as though its summer still is stupid, generally most vehicles are slower on the roads during the winter anyhow, as long as you get and give the same respect as a motorcyclist during the summer you should be fine.oh yeah dress warm!
Oh and not to preach but treat anybody riding in a Pontiac Sunfire as someone in possession of a dangerous weapon.its either a drunken lesbian or some teenagers joy riding in their dads mid life crisis vehicle he got cause he couldnt afford the Countach.best case scenario its the guy with the crisis.self explanitory...Pontiac Sunfire owners are killers... (no offence to owners of the Pontiac or Sunfire model vehicles :!:

Nope, I wouldnt ride the roads around here with the chance of snow or ice on them.
With the way people drive around here it would be deadly.

I never ride the roads after winter until after the first really good thunderstorm washes the salt of the road.

How many other people have seen what salt does to a bike? YUCK

I wouldnt hesitate to ride the trails, open field or out on a lake in the snow only problem is after working out it that stuff all day I have little interest in playing outside in it.

I remember you sayin Kawazacky that your bike is your only mode of transportation?
If so ride on man with all the money your saving on gas etc....your bikes probably the cheapest way to travel plus think of the wasted months you probably put on insurance.put it this way if everyone only had a bike everyone would be driving it in the snow and we would have better drivers and fewer accidents.just watch out for cushy drivers with 4 wheels.lol.....
And be careful dude there will definately be conditions that you just should not drive in.should not drive anything in car included.good luck getting through the long harsh winter!
