On my way home now from Baja Ride. Just got over the Grape vine and will visit my cousin tomorrow then work my way north 1200 miles and hope to be home about the time FjMartin is feeling the "Desert 100" rally ride this weekend. You Go Joe2 MacGuyver
Donkey Hoty is in the back of the Ranger all spruced up and serviced by the great CSC mechanics. Valves adj. , oil, filter changed , air cleaner cleaned , new front and rear tires, R brake pads, leaky fork seal changed, rear cush hub bearing replaced, chain adjusted. etc.
I bought the "police bike" front engine guards to try them as they look like more to my liking. Maybe not as much protection as the stock ones but since I never crash that shouldn't be a problem. And they give a place to put my feet like high way pegs and they are just more straight forward
for mounting things to and make the engine more accessible to work on.
I want to thank Joe, Steve and Jay for a really great adventure ride. As well a my fellow Baja riders who put up with me. You were all great people to travel with. Joe2 never even complained about my snoring. Just a great group of people to be with.
The bikes all ran great .One muffler assembly come loose but we had enough spare nuts and bolts to fix it in no time. I never thought about it , but when your traveling with everyone on the same bike, you all use about the same amount of gas so your range is equal and someone in the group will have the needed spare part so we had no worries.
No problem with gas availability or quality of it.
I felt like I ate way to much and gained weight. Felt crudy a few days from pigging out and sitting all day on a motorcycle but nothing close to the dread Montezuma's revenge we all hear about.
I don't think any one got sick on the whale watching boats. I did take Dramimine. Had a ball petting and watching momma and baby whale so close.
Motels were all very comfortable, some had RV size bathrooms that were a challenge for this old man maneuvering about. but then I wasn't in there to sight see.
I'll try and get some pics up after I get home and undiscombuberated from the trip. I'll post them over in "Ride Reports" section.
All in all , I had a Whale of a good time. rj

I just finished servicing my bike from the trip. Now to put on the Shinko 804/805 tires for it with the new 19" rim I picked up at CSC. Your snoring wasn't that bad since I had 33db NR ear buds in :-) The trip was a blast and was my first international one on the bike. I downloaded over 60GB of pictures and raw video from the trip. It will take a while but I'll get a youtube video put together or maybe a bunch or short ones. Drive safe!

Joe2, Have a fun , safe ride in the Odessa Desert 100. Should be a great year for it seeing all the rain we've been having on this side. Shouldn't be as dusty. Are you stripping all the luggage and guards off the RX3 so it's more deserty? May want to bring your snorkel outfit just in case :lmao rj

Welcome back gang and glad you all had a fun, safe ride in Baja!

Let me know how you like the 19"er and if there's any real difference and if so, what?
I'm seriously thinking of doing this.....once Uncle Sam and Uncle Jerry are paid.

Joe #2,

What did you do on the trip to earn the Mexguyver moniker?

RJ, I'm pulling the luggage off and will just have a rear dry bag to hold some emergency stuff and my jacket if it gets too warm. Oh, I fixed my top case by dremeling off the broken plastics bases, getting longer bolts, 24mm stainless washers and nylon lock nuts. Works great, won't break and can still easily slide it on and off.

JBFLA, Just by showing people my bike farkles/customizations and helping some others with stuff on theirs. We all seemed to gain our baja nicknames along the way.

Wow , you've been busy FJ, I'm doing everything possible to not get home and have to start the grind again.
I think we gave you the mexgyver name cause you be our go to guy for all things technical and mechanical. Which you did well and really kept things moving smoothly.
When are you heading to Desert 100? rj

I'm going to head over Friday morning. Just finished doing the following to the bike:
Washed bike
Fixed the top box
Oil/Filter change
Air Filter Cleaning
Chain Tension
Chain Lube
Setup new 19" front wheel (Rotor, Bushings, Speedo, Shinko 804)
Setup rears with Shinko 805
Rode around to get speed offset and calibrated with SpeedoDRD (-5.6%)
Checked all bolts for tension and Locktite
