Thanks for the update, Jak. Your "stealth" Zong and trailer combination look great! Of course you know, we expect ride reports, with lots of photographs, from your stealth camping expeditions!

P.S. I'm shocked your friend wouldn't trade his WR250 straight up for your Zong/trailer combination! 8O Oh well; his loss is your gain! 8)

You are travelling through my native area. If you have any problems my parents live in Worthington, MN (shop with lots of tools) and I grew up in Northwest IA right at the top of the scenic byway.

Nice trailer and I would put the load in the trailer up to close to 90 lbs since you have 7 gallons of liquid that has to weight 60 lbs including containers.
I've had 60 lbs in my bicycle cargo trailer and don't feel it except on rough gravel roads even behind my CT70 clone.

Of course you're right, Vince. I failed to notice the water that's good for 20lbs right there. I would be curious to know what the entire trailer weighs, including the cargo. The bikw isn't carrying all of that weight of course, but I'm curious about how much it's pulling. The weak link in the system is likely the clutch, IMHO.

Geat stuff. We are all excited for you! Thanks for sharing the pics!

That WR is the cat's ass of 250 D/S's. About $1,500 more than I paid for my KLX but fuel injected and an aluminum frame. Curiously exactly the same weight though.

I love your riding area. I'm not surprised that your well designed and well constructed trailer is working out well. I'd only throw in my caution to avoid braking downhill, especially in the soft stuff, and/or in a turn.

I second Doc's admonition regarding braking. The Zong's brakes are adequate, but not powerful. The Zong also has a good Yamaha clutch, but the bike is geared very high from the factory with its 15T/46T sprocket ratio. If you haven't done so already, I encourage you to install a 13T countershaft sprocket on your bike. This smaller sprocket will give you more torque to pull your trailer, increase compression braking to help you slow down, and ease punishment on your bike's clutch.

that is a really cool trailer. maybe you could build a compact generator and have power on your camping trips also.

BIKE TRAILER WHEEL SIZE

HI! Does anyone have suggestions for wheel size on these trailers? I am seeing 15,16, and 20 inch wheel sizes on the E-BAY rigs that are for sale.I like the 20 inch wheel model,as it has the widest cargo area bed of all the three most popular trailers, although it is all steel instead of aluminum... Please, all your thoughts and suggestions will be greatly appreciated! THANKS,SINCERELY, RICK SAVIDGE.

rikosaur,
Maybe not a big deal but seems to me that 20" wheels will be the best size because of less revolutions per mile.

AOSOM cargo trailer with a load for the dump.
