I used the air compressor method and the tight left grip slipped off faster than hot butter down a tilted frying pan!

Oh my that is a very solid chunky metal handlebar end, that hole looks solid, yes its not lipped its drilled out 9.5mm through solid metal.

And the "Universal Fit Kit" for the hand guards won't go in. The large expansion tube when removed still shows the small expansion lock needed about 12.7mm. Its not going to fit.

I really don't feel like free-hand drilling right now so I finally get to use my carry bag for official business for the very first time!

Returned to the UPS Store to go back to Amazon.

I will have a think some more about hand guard and have a look around at a later date. For now I'll just forego them.

Left hand grip is super tight so I used the isoprophyl alcohol trick. Tipped a thimblefull in the grip, put my hand over the end and gave it a good shake. Tipped it out over top of the handlebar soaking it completely. I put the grip against the end of the handlebar and pushed. Oh my word, (this is a family site yea?) it was slick and slid on like nothing.

The lubrication properties were so good at the end of the return ride from the UPS store after wiping down the bike (started to lighlty spit rain after exiting the store) I then made sure I twisted the left grip into the final alignment and position I want it in when it finally sticks down hard again.

Yes I saw that style but avoided them because they had holes cut in them and I’m trying to block as much wind as possible from my gloves to assist with colder weather a tiny bit.

The photographs on that product page list the width of the inserts at 13mm that would be too wide to fit my handlebar’s holes. If you remove the outer black tube (rubber?) then you’ll have to see and report back. I didn’t see any other size measurements in the store photos.

I just did a magnet test on my handlebars. I originally assumed they were steel, but I am not getting any magnetic pull so its not very ferrous metal. So jc3 if you want to try drilling it might end up being an extremely thick chunk of aluminum in which case that may be the way to go for installing handguards on Templars.

I got a set of hand guards just like those myself. The way I ended up mounting them was by using just the threaded part that the bolt on the ends screw into. I just tapped it in snug and screwed the end of the hand guard into it. Don’t worry about trying to drive it in to far on the throttle side. If you do, the throttle grip won’t turn freely. Mine turned out fine. Very tight. And those particular ones fit the Templar very well. Be careful with the two screws on both of the clamps. They will strip. I tightened down too much on one of the screws and ended up having to retap it. It’s aluminum. But they will take a lot of torque. Just be careful. You want them tight. The clamps do most of the holding. The end bolts do solidify everything up good too. Mine wont move at all.

They almost look like carbon fiber with the pattern. Looks great.

Do you reckon even though soft that they would offer the protection for the levers?

With those handguards (and probably without) the only thing that i've found that breaks easily is the mirror mount if it hits the ground

I am giving a second pair of hand guards a go. There isn't much choice when it comes to larger sizes and all solid guard. But I did get what looks like full black anodized aluminum bars and mounts to better blend in with the fully black Templar handlebar, the previous set was all silver aluminum bar and mounts. So I'll just have to make these fit if I want the larger style on the bike.

If you get over the chunky mounts of the ADV style mirrors these give you out to the side views and they are easy when riding off road to loosen and fold them inwards along the handlebar to get them tucked in away from danger of damage though the Templar has tight space with the headlight cowling and dash and cables taking up a bunch of space. That gets them out of the way from being bashed and when you leave the dirt for the open road you can quickly flip them back up for use in traffic.

Received. A big quality improvement over the first habdguards. But also, big hand guards as in way too big for the Templar. Another universal dirt bike hand guard but this time if I place the long end to the middle of the handlebar the other side that is supposed to screw into the ends of the handlebars is hanging out in mid air many many inches from the bar end. I cannot fathom the size of handlebars that this was made to go on but it’s not universal for anything but monster sized motorcycles .

On pretty much any bike I add the wrap around hand guards, it requires a little bending to the wrap around to get a proper fit....some of the really cheap ones are low quality aluminum, and can break when trying to bend them, so watch out for that.

I would guess snowmobile. If I put those handguards back to back touching each other they are longer than the handlebars are on the bike itself. It wouldn't be just bending it would be cutting, and redrilling and bending and a whole lot of other misc work so back they went, shame as they were nice quality.

Has anyone tried to run a heated vest with their Templar X? My KLR 650 powered mine nicely but I don't ride that much now that I have the X. Just wondering if anyone knows the wattage these bikes put out?

Thumbs Up Lowered Temp X

Drilling new rear shock mounting holes worked.
The linkage adapts to shock length, but note that it appears to be linear.
More info here.

I will post photos of finished height once I finish the other work I am doing on the carb and wiring. Work is LOOMING since it is Monday. Crap.
