Yuasa YTZ7S or equivalent works perfectly. Similar amp hours and more CCA from a smaller battery. It will need some foam blocks for proper spacing to secure in the battery holder. Usually you can find them for around 20 to 30 bucks.

I spent some money and got a lithium battery. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It is expensive, but weighs nothing and comes with a battery charger.

The downside is, the battery tender batteries are no more through Amazon. If you search on Google there are a few retailers with some leftovers. Since Battery Tender changed their battery brand/lineup, the old numbers are starting to be scarce.

I would also not install a lithium battery without first upgrading to a mosfet Reg Rec with the sense circuit eliminated. This will ensure the proper charge voltage across the RPM range with much greater stability. Otherwise the lifespan of the battery could be compromised.

Just one example of a decent affordable battery. A couple people on here use this one. https://www.amazon.com/Mighty-Max-Ba...e%2C195&sr=1-6

I use a Gel variant from the same company and have been quite pleased with it so far.

That is the battery I am using and works perfect. Dan is correct. If you read through some of the reviews on the lithium battery you will notice quite a few claiming the batteries didn't last a few weeks or and month. That's due to the voltage being high and overcharging. Even with the Gel battery you will need to check the output of your charging system but should be okay. Even though it is a better battery, high voltage will kill it too but can withstand much higher voltage than the lithium battery. That said, I would get either the battery in the link or the Gel battery that Megadan mentioned. Keep it simple.

Hmm never thought of that. I was planning to get a volt meter to install here soon. I've been running it for a couple of months and haven't had any problem. I'll look into this.

You couldnt do a better upgrade than a lithium battery..

I didnt like that they dont balance charge the batteries, so built my own.

I haven't heard alot of complaining or issues with them. I just felt safer about balance charging rather than parallel charging setup thy all seem to use.

like any lipo situation they are nice and powerfull right up to the low voltage cutoff. and the recharge rate seem's superior to lead acid by far.

Good point. The concept of the Lithium battery is a good idea. The battery has a built in voltage protection for overcharging and discharging. There have been a few cases of batteries catching fire or exploding. My brother in law had one catch fire the first week he had installed it. There may be a few defective ones out there. Battery tender would not refund or replace the battery after only a week old. This was when they first came out so hopefully they have corrected the problem. That's why before installing one I would check voltage output just to be on the safe side.

I too went with this battery. Was skeptical at purchase but after several mornings in the teens and even single digit temps, it has worked flawlessly every time. Can’t go wrong for the money
