China Waterproof Motorcycle GPS / Rage / Peaklife

There are many names for this GPS that runs Windows CE and uses IGO maps

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-...851504048.html or https://www.chinavasion.com/china/wh..._GPS_Navigator

Do any of you have experience with these units? People who are pc/gps savvy seem to like them I thought they may go well with these bikes.

Spud if I am not in the correct spot please let me know.

Have looked at them for years as a possible backup for my Zumo were it to ever die.

The same mfg has a newer model out than the Peaklife, also getting great reviews (BTW, there is a long thread about the PEaklife and others on ADV rider)

Here is the one I was looking at

Yes, I have read the thread over on adv it goes back a few years too!
just thought someone here may not be on adv and may not have heard of these units. This forum is more friendly than advrider (nothing against adv). and I believe is in many ways more of a DIY forum and this is kind of a DIY gps unit.

Looks like a very affordable and usable GPS. One concern I would have is that most all bike rallies use Garmin tracks and routes for their ride activities and I'm not sure if this unit will download and read Garmin files ???? No problem if you don't do the rallies or use their provided ride routes I guess. rj

This is a good place for your thread, Keith. Thanks for letting me know about the Chinese GPS; I didn't realize it got such good reviews. Can someone provide a link to the thread at ADVRider?

From what I have read you can import and or convert Garmin files and maybe even maps(?) for use. I will do more research and post my findings.

I've been using a Nexus 7 for the motorcycle and airplanes for about 3 years with great luck. Vibration hasn't hurt the thing in 50,000 miles. A motorola moto G is waterproof and 149 as well if you want to use one for a gps, strait talk is about 42 dollars a month for unlimited data (5g at 4g, rest at 2g) and unlimited talk/text on ATT network.

I've got my phone and nexus tablet filled with offline maps and the phone will also add in realtime radar so pretty handy to dodge thunderstorms.

With the Phone and Google Now (within cell range) you can use the Sena bluetooth headset (or any) and voice activate everything. Ask for directions and it will find them and navigate with voice guidance into the helmet. I use this to make/answer calls and read/send texts handsfree on the bike.

I use a combo of apps, Rever, OSMand+, Google Maps, Backcountry Navigator depending on what I'm riding. Rever will let you create routes on your computer then automatically sends them to the phone.

I also thought of going that route using my old Note II phone, but find battery life terrible it needs to be wired in (micro USB has not held up well on the cheap Garmins I have been using to offroad vibration). Also finding software to convert reliably Garmin routes, POI and tracks into the phone software.

Lee please add any info you have alternatives to $600 gps units are always good.

I own a Garmin eTrex Legend HCx, which I use for dirt/dual sport riding. I posted my review at the following link.

http://www.chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=6279

I recently bought a Garmin Nuvi 52 for my automobile, and I am going to set it up for use with my Zongshen RX3. Here is an interesting thread on this topic from ADVRider.

http://advrider.com/index.php?thread...-setup.863174/

I bought all the pieces, and now that the cold weather has arrived in Idaho, I am going to start working on this project. I will post a new thread on my Garmin Nuvi project in the near future.

You might also want to check out the new TomTom Rider, motorcycle GPS. Here is a link to a thread I posted on that GPS earlier this year.

I'm making a video review of my tablet and phone for use on the bike. It should help illustrate the features. I've also got a delorme pn60 and inreach to throw in the demo. It should pretty well cover most options for GPS navigation on a motorcycle. If you travel outside cell range the inreach provides text comms and rescue service should it be needed.

I've been using gps for vehicle navigation since the Garmin GPS V with 19mb of internal memory haha.

Google Now and a Sena Headset is the luxury way to get directions.

The Inreach (Satelite text messaging) has delormes app for the phone/tablet which includes all the delorme topo's for the united states. You can offline as much as you like for travel outside cell range or for a tablet with no wifi. You can also text via a phone (much easier) by bluetooth connection to the Inreach.

For you Spud, it's really nice when your 100 miles from anything and have no cell reception, like in Utah.

Here is a few year old video for the 10" tablet I was using at the time. I made this for the Tiger1050 forum (another great group of people). It's a bit dated compared to what we have now.
