Zongshen Sierra ZS200GY-2 help!!!

Hello All,

I’ve recently come to own the frame and wheels of an 06 Zongshen Sierra. While she still needs work, I’m having a tough time finding a motor for her in the United States! Can someone help me, please? Any information on the motor, similar useable engines, anything! Thank you!

-Tylor

JerryHawk250 this will fit the frame of the bike? That’s my concern is that I’ll get the same size motor and it doesn’t fit.

We have a member that did the Lifan 200 swap a while back. If I remember he had to modify the front engine mount a little to make it work. I'll try to find the thread and post a link.
The Brozz counterbalance engine will probably need a custom made front mount to make work. If you have some fabrication skills that would be the one I would go with.

If you find that thread do let me know! I wouldn’t mind getting a readily available motor.

Either that, or you can swap in a Yamaha xt225 motor. The TW200 would fit, but the countershaft is a bit long.

I did locate the thread but no point in posting it. All the pictures were deleted and no real write up to explain on what was done.

Welcome, Tylor! X2 on the XT225 motor. It has more displacement, an OHC, more power and six gears. Total win.

Weldangrind, I’ll look into it. I’m all for doing a little fab work if it doesn’t fit!

Okay, so in the knowledge of everyone present, would you say the Lifan is a worthy resemblance of the motor? I found some possible Zongshen 167FML series motors on this Alibaba website, but I don’t trust it. I’d rather stick to EBay where in the States I know I’ll be okay if it’s a scam. Lifan seems to be the popular eBay ticket. Is it worth it?

And also, does anyone have a link to where I can purchase cosmetic parts for the bike? Like the rear light housing, fairings, hamdguards, etc.?

Thank you all so much for your help!

These used literal clones of the Yamaha TW200 engine as others mentioned, if you can find one for a reasonable price. I think Chinese Hondoid (nicknamed that because they are not really identical to any real Honda engines, but are similar) are good alternatives; very reliable! Lifan or Zongshen will do the trick. Personally, I would go with a Lifan engine, but that is personal opinion, and not based on anything--in the end, either one will do the trick.

Like Franque said, the TW200 countershaft is too long, so it's not a candidate. The XT225 or the TT-R230 is a good fit. You could also pop in a Yamaha Exciter 185 engine, although that's a five speed and has less power.

Bottom line is that the Sierra was designed for a Yamaha engine, not a Honda engine. Yes, you can fit a Lifan Honda clone engine in the space with some welding and grinding, but it's not a bolt-in deal. The original engine in your Sierra was a Zongshen ZS200GY-2, which is a near-perfect Yamaha clone. There is a ton of good info here: http://www.chinariders.net/showthread.php?t=6051
