My Zongshen 200GY-2 bike employs an AC-CDI unit, Pliskin. I am pretty sure your Australian version of my Zong is identical in this regard.

Two of my four, Zongshen CDI units have the following designation written on them:

CDI-ZS067-001

If you can afford it, I recommend you get at least two, spare CDI units. I have had two CDI units fail for my Zongshen 200GY-2 motorcycle in 42,000 miles.

Thank you Spud for quick answer. I also gave them the link to this post so he can check if it's CDI-ZS067-001.

You're welcome, Pliskin. I love helping my fellow Zongites.

My original CDI unit has a different number: LY200 607009. I haven't checked to see the number on the CDI unit currently installed in my Zong.

Incidentally, forum member Azriel was experimenting with the Lifan, CDI units designed for the 150cc pit bikes. He had to fabricate a new wiring harness for the Lifan CDI unit. He got his Zong to start, but it wouldn't run above 3,000 rpms with the Lifan CDI unit. :(

http://chinariders.net/modules.php?n...wtopic&t=11397

Also, someone reported the Yamaha, TW200 CDI unit worked, but he had to rewire the kill switch.

http://chinariders.net/modules.php?n...wtopic&t=13099

If you can get one, the Zongshen CDI units are by far the easiest replacement. The Zongshen CDI units are very reasonably priced, and, in my experience, these CDI units seem to last about 20,000 miles, on average. The TW200, CDI units cost 3 or 4 times as much as the Zongshen, CDI units. 8O

I remember reading about it. Don't know what was his solution.

Mine is still working i just wanted to get a spare one. If 20,000 miles is how much they last, then mine still has half life left in it.

You're welcome. My original CDI unit failed around 10,000 miles, Pliskin. My replacement CDI unit lasted approximately 30,000 miles. Therefore, you are very wise to get one, or more spare, CDI units. Your original CDI unit could start to fail tomorrow, or it could last another 20,000 miles, but you never know for sure.

Having a spare CDI unit is very handy just for electrical diagnosis. Also, if your CDI unit fails tomorrow, you can keep riding if you have a spare. If you don't have a spare CDI unit handy, you will need to wait for the proverbial "slow boat from China" to arrive.

I strongly encourage all Zong owners to follow your wise example.

I have had four CDI units fail for me. :( Two CDI units failed on my Honda XR650L. Fortunately, I learned how to repair them. I bought another spare, and I now have three, Honda, CDI units. As I said earlier, I have had two, Zongshen, CDI units fail for me. You cannot repair the Zongshen CDI units. :(

The CDI unit almost invariably exhibits intermittent failures before it finally dies completely. A classic symptom of a failing CDI unit is when the bike dies while you are riding, as if you hit the kill switch. Also, intermittent starting problems are another bad sign. If the bike dies on you, then starts after a brief rest, the CDI unit is suspect.

If you have a spare CDI unit handy, you can merely swap in the spare and see if the problems disappear. You can also carry the spare with you so you don't get stranded far from home. You can usually ride a little while with the intermittent CDI failures. However, as time progresses, the CDI unit will fail more frequently, at the worst possible times, until it dies outright. :(

Once you recognize the symptoms, you don't wait to get stranded out in the middle of nowhere. You retire the failing CDI unit, install the spare, and go riding with confidence.

I didn't know this. I know you repaired your honda CDI. That was cool.

Have you heard back from Taobao, Pliskin? I understand Zongshen Australia is defunct. :( Am I correct? :?:
