Possible Zongshen CDI options ?

Seems my CDI is going out. Suggestions on where to get? Other than Zongshen America or Tabao? Not so sure bout that Tabao website. And I was just looking for other options. What TW200 CDI works? Anyone every try a "performance" CDI, did it work?

Talked to Zongshen $48.95 for one CDI plus shipping. Up a bit from the $25.00 they were. 8O

Somebody tried a Yamaha CDI unit in his Zong. If I remember correctly, he said the Yamaha, CDI unit worked, but he had to rewire his bike to make the kill switch work. You can search this forum and find the thread.

I am sorry to hear the Zongshen CDI units have increased in price so much; however, they are still less than half the price of a Yamaha CDI unit.

I might be wrong, but I can't remember anyone experimenting with a "performance" CDI unit in his Zong.

If anyone wants to donate me one (they can't be that expensive can they?) I'll document how to make it work. I'm a bored EE.

Mine was just replaced ~100mi ago but if it ever dies again this is what I'm going to try. The first one I googled (the zongs are ac, rite?) even said it used a variable resistor to change the timing curve! That would be awesome since there is presently no way that I've found to change (advance) the stock timing a little.

The Zongshen 200GY-2 does employ an AC-CDI unit. Of course, you would need to make a wiring adapter to connect the adjustable CDI unit in the link you posted.

If you're bored, you could perform a great service to Zong owners by contributing to the following thread, Obso!

http://chinariders.net/modules.php?n...wtopic&t=11397

Although it is not adjustable, the Lifan CDI unit for the 150cc engines is inexpensive, and readily available from a wide variety of vendors. I'm sure Zong owners would be grateful if you could figure out how to make the Lifan CDI unit work for our Zongs!

I guess that "adjustable" for Honda clone won't works
ZS / Yammie are longer which some ancient "programmable" can't set probably

I was told CDI for Yamaha TW200 is appx $300.00 from Yamaha shop. So I figured $60 shipped from Zongshen is still a good deal.

The photographs of the CDI unit I posted in this thread do not have connectors compatible with the Zongshen wiring harness. Please note, I said one would need to make a wiring adapter if he wished to experiment with this aftermarket CDI unit. The connectors of the Honda, 400EX CDI unit are also not compatible with the Zongshen wiring harness.

According to one internet parts seller, the Yamaha, TW200 CDI unit retails for $193.92. The best internet price I have found for the TW200, CDI unit is $142.91, plus shipping. 8O

Also, if you install a TW200 CDI unit, the Zongshen engine will not shut off unless you modify the Zongshen wiring. If you wish to learn more, you might enjoy reading the following thread.
