CDI Wiring/Stator issue

I noticed that my stator was grounded and on the wiring diagram there is no direct wire to ground. I believe this is what is causing my ignition/running problem. Plus there are only five wires to/from my CDI and there is no white/green wire to the CDI from the stator only the black/red and the white/blue. Can someone send me a pic of their CDI wiring or help me out here? I can't figure out which lead goes to what on the CDI to diagnose if it is improperly wired. I have been having problems with the ignition and I believe the guy I bought it from dumped it and tried to rewire it himself and now it is all f-ed up. Please help!

Ok, figured out the CDI wiring diagram, wasn't that hard. Still grounded stator is bad right? Plus I believe my ignition coil is bad too. It won't spark when the plug and cap are attatched and the spark it does give off is weak. I can hold it without pissing myself.

If memory serves, black/red and blue/white are the CDI wires. You may have a bad ignition coil, possibly a bad resistor in the plug cap, a lesser chance of having a bad CDI or an extremely small chance of having a bad flywheel.

Find another coil, most any will do, and see if it sparks strong. If so, get the proper one to fit your bike and you should be set.

When it comes to diagnosing cycle ignition electrical, generally there are no ways to test the components, just replacement. I have had components pass a resistance test perfectly and still be bad.

Here are the resistance measurements for the XR200 ignition coil, yours should be similar.

Primary coil {wire to the CDI and ground} 0.1 - 0.3 ohms
Secondary {spark plug wire and ground} 6.4K - 11K ohms
Secondary {plug cap removed} 2.7K - 4.5K ohms

I do not know if the chinabikes have a resistor in the plug cap, if it does, bypass it with a healthy conductor for testing.

Hey Red, thanks, but I'm no guru! My first posts here were looking for motor wiring info. With diagrams from the CR guys, my knowledge and some luck, I got it going!

You're very welcome! You deserve it. I just had to replace the CDI on my kids 110 china bike. Apparently I got a little close with the garden hose and fried it. Bike would start right up and idle halfway decent, give it gas and...pop, pop, pop, gag, puke, quit. I cleaned the carb, changed the plug, swapped coils, yadda, yadda, yadda......nothing. I finally replaced the CDI with one off eBay for $7.00...........BINGO, runs like a champ. I probably needed to clean the carb, replace the plug, etc anyway. Been spending too much time on his Dad's China Bike .

I think the wiring diagram is not that accurate, some wires are different colors at different ends (according to the diagram)

Yeah, it was greased on the connector side, but the back side of the wires had opened up enough to let in water. I regreased the new one and taped the wires up solid. The cdi mounts under the rear fender right above the rear wheel with NO cover or anything. I gotta find a better location and/or a better way to cover it up.

I did this on all my connectors, cause Dad had a minor ignition issue early on due to corrosion. This is probably a good prep thread suggestion.

I'm new to this. Where do I find the CDI? I own a 2005 LF150GY. It misses and has an uneven idle. I assume at 400 mi. it is now broken-in. I went through fuel issues and come up with electrics as the possible culprit. I just don't know ignition parts, location and stuff.

I wouldn't rule out carb issues. Have you dropped the needle clip and turned the fuel screw out to 2 turns? If not, start there before you look for electronics. You could also put in a new spark plug if you are still running the stocker.

Side = Voltage Regulator/Rectifier

Under Tank = Ignition Coil

Under Seat = 1} CDI
2} Turn Signal Flasher (?)
3} Starter Solenoid
