Head light Q

Hi,

My V-Raptor 250 has a head light 35W bulb. If I put a new head light with a H4 or H7 bulb. Is the generator strong enough for more watts? Motor number is 166fmm.

I ran a 45w bulb on my lifan with no problems. Some people switch other bulbs to LEDs to reduce the load and free up more watts for the headlight.

THanks, thats a good idea. I could put a LED bulb in the back.

You can replace it with a HID H4 bulb and ballast it will draw 35w and actually be cooler than regular or halogen ones. :wink:

Is the headlight lens plastic or glass? More watts equals more heat. A plastic lens may melt.

Some members have put in 55w bulbs successfully. I ran a 45w without changing to any LEDs and it was fine.

The HID is a good suggestion too.

The lens is glass, the rest is plastic. I don't know what you call it... the reflector..that chrome thing.. will that melt?

In Germany HID have to be approved by the vehicle registration and inspection center (TÃœV) and must be entered in the vehicle papers. If not you lose the permit to use the vehicle on public streets and you lose insurance. If you say: "those crazy Germans"... then your right.
AND HID headlights must have a cleaning function to be permitted for that vehicle!!! So you see thats not an option...hehe..I take it with a smile!! Imagine something squirting water on the headlight and then a windshield wiper going back and forth on a motorcycle headlight..

I think I will try the 45w option.

The reflector will not melt. A 45W bulb should work fine in your headlight, especially after you installed an LED bulb in the tail light.

So, thats what I finally did. 45W in the front and a Shin Yo LED tail light. Had to make a little adapter. Beautiful now....

And now I hope I won't have change the tail bulb every 500 Kms because it went bad from "good vibrations".

As soon as possible, I switch to an LED tail light on all my dual sport bikes. The vibrations from trail riding will quickly kill an incandescent bulb.

Hi Eric,
what a nice coincidence, just yesterday my LED backlight was dead after 4 weeks and 350Km...

I hope you've got more luck with yours.

A solution for your issue with the H4 headlight might be a 35/35W H4 bulb for Bilux-socket, but on the one hand they are very expensive (about 15€) and on the other hand you still don't have a H4 reflector. So don't expect the same result as with a complete H4 headlight, which is the way i would go.
Was your original Taillight equipped with a 21/5W bulb? Then you only save about 4 Watts without braking, but the generator should be able to handle the 45/40W H4 bulbs.

500 Kilometers is alot. Imagine you had to walk that distance.
