Battery for electric gloves and jacket liner

I am looking for a battery to power my electric gloves and jacket liner while on the YZ400F as it does not have a charging system.

The criteria are light weight, small enough to put in an oversized pocket, and have bolt on connectors, and be spillproof, and be easy to recharge with no special equipment, and be durable enough to last.

The Gerbing battery for this purpose is $200, so it should be less than that, or otherwise I'd just get th specific one.

I assume the Gerbing is a lithium ion battery. Right off the bat, I can suggest three choices.

1. Get an Antigravity 4-Cell battery from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC.

http://antigravitybatteries.com/ag-401/

http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/...ity%204%20cell

With a 10 percent off, coupon code, this lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4) battery will cost about $100. However, I believe the LiFePO4 batteries don't like being drained repeatedly. Therefore, you would also need to get the Antigravity charger, which costs about $55.

This battery is powerful enough to start my Honda XR650L. However, I would check with the tech support at Antigravity Batteries, to ensure the battery longevity would not be compromised if the battery is repeatedly drained while powering your heated gear.

2. Get an Antigravity Microstart XP-1.

http://antigravitybatteries.com/microstartxp1/

This unit can also jump start your truck, if necessary.

I realize this product doesn't have the connectors you specified, but it's such a cool product, I wanted to mention it. Of course, you could fabricate the appropriate connectors. Once again, I would check with the tech support at Antigravity Batteries, to ensure the battery longevity would not be compromised while powering your heated gear.

3. Get a less expensive, generic, lithium battery pack, and add the proper connectors. You can try the following vendor.

Very interesting!

I can't believe something the size of a couple packs od cigarettes can start my truck.

That deal is pricey at $150, but it looks like it may have many uses beyond what I need it for and may come in handy someday in the airplane or elsewhere.

I'll call when I can and get more info.

Thanks for your help Spud, more questions to follow.

BTW that unit works best for me. It has a place to plug in a male coaxial connector. That's what the Gerbings use!

It looks like choice 2 is the best.

The price is the same as choice 1 when you figure in the charger, and it does more.

I called tech support at Antigravity. Nice guy, Eric, knew the product and helped me a lot. He said he's giving me a discount if I report back and tell him how well it works for future reference. He also said if it does not live up to my expectations he will take it back.

I think I will order, and let you know how well it does. Thanks for your help, Spud.

I don't remember the equation...

If something draws 30 watts at 12 volts how long will a 4 amp/hour battery last?

Are you kidding? If not, how much is the discount?

P=I x E

30 watts = 12 volts times (X amps)

30 watts/12 volts = 2.5 amps

4 amp-hours/2.5 amps = 1.6 hours

1.6 hours is not very long, but I have hardly ever needed to have the gloves on 'high'. I bet at medium or low they will last over 2 hours, maybe even 3. At that rate they will keep me warm for most midwinter YZ400F rides.

Rocky Mountain ATV is also selling the Microstart XP-3 for $116.95. It lacks the carrying case, and some of the adapters. Also, it might lack the power port you need. However, it is an inch shorter, and 2 ounces lighter.

Use a ten percent off, coupon code, and you can purchase the Microstart XP-3 for $105.26, with free delivery.

Do you have a coupon code for them?

I wonder if I can return it to them if I don't like it...

Hey, I have some money left over in my account at RM...
