Newbie question about 125cc head exhaust

Last weekend I just replaced Bertha's 110cc motor for a new 125cc. Everything flows perfectly. At her first startup I heard like "exhaust leak" in the exhaust area. When I look underneath I saw like a "port" or hole just next to the exhaust pipe. What's the purpose of that port? Can I put a plug or leave in that way?

Thanks for you help in this stupid question.

That's an emission control device, and you should plug it off.

I agree with Weld.

I would get a thin aluminum plate, and drill two holes in the correct location for the bolts. Then I would coat the inner side of the aluminum plate with Ultra Black RTV silicone, and bolt it into place to cover the hole.
