Welcome Pete!
I'm with you on the larger engine. As much as I love my 200-250cc bikes, I'd really enjoy something closer to 400cc. You can't yet register an RX-3 in Cali?

Welcome, Pete. We are glad you joined us.
The current RX3 is a second generation motorcycle. The first version of the Zongshen RX3 had a carburetor. The current version employs U.S. Delphi EFI. The RX3 bikes imported by CSC also have a larger alternator, improved wiring harness, 17-inch rear wheel, and easier access to the air filter, among other improvements. Zongshen is developing a 450cc engine, but we don't know if, let alone when, that larger engine will be completed, let alone whether it will be installed in the RX3 motorcycle. However, I certainly do hope a 450cc version of the RX3 will appear sometime in the future.

CARB approval is not yet official, but it should be announced very soon.

I hope that it is 400cc, for insurance reasons in my area.

I think you are probably out of luck, Weld. As far as I know, the 450cc powerplant is the only engine larger than 250cc which is being developed by Zongshen. The Shineray X5 employs a very nice copy of the Honda NX400 engine. However, I doubt the X5 will be imported to Canada.
